Accessing game objects via mouse in Game View

I am not only new to Unity, I am making my first 3D game and it is proving to be frustrating to say the least.

So an object has a location in the scene at (1,1,1).

In game view the object may have a location of (300,200,0).

I want to destroy the game object when I click on it. If someone could point me the the right direction, that would be awesome.

By ‘game view’ I assume you mean screen space. If so, what you’re looking for is ‘raycasting’ or ‘picking’.

I would start by searching the forums and Unity docs for these terms. Things to look at in particular might include the physics ‘raycast’ function, and the camera ‘screen point to ray’ function.

Also you can check up the OnMouseUp() method on Monobehaviours. Remember to attach a collider to the objects you want to interact with.

The script reference will be your friend(although I hope it will be a better friend soon(better documentation for U3 I hope!).

Thanks. I have been using the scripting reference since I started, and boy is it helpful.

I think I can figure it out now, thanks fellas.
