Accessing Local Computer Files

I’ve heard a flaw with the Unity editor is that you cannot access local files, and I do not really want to build my prototype every time I want to test it. So is there a way around this, or do I have to do it the hard way? I use c# if that helps. (Also if this is false, can you let me know)

Who the hell told you that? There is no limitation when it comes to the Unity Editor except for platform dependant features (in most cases).
