Achieving A Paper Mario: Sticker Stars Art Style

Just wondering if anyone has any idea on how to achieve the art style seen in Sticker Stars. I’d like to make a game for Android and iOS that uses shadows and 3d paper or cardboard stock texture to achieve a textured and realistic art style.

I’ve already been able to create assets in Illustrator that match the art very closely. I’ve done this by adding a texture filter to the artwork, and creating creating shadows under certain pieces. I have a feeling that there’s more to it than that (things like shadows would be dynamic I suspect, and wouldn’t be able to be pre-baked into the art)…

I don’t have any code as of yet because I’ve mainly been working on art assets and wanted to put feelers out there to see if what I’m trying to achieve is even possible within Unity…

I have attached an exmaple of the look that I’m going for

Thanks!

Paper Mario Sticker Stars doesn’t use dynamic lighting, all the shadows are blob shadows which is just a radial gradient sprite.
It’s definitely possible in unity. You just need to create a lot of artwork for the different angles etc. I’m really curious how your project will turn out. Good luck
