If the previous version of unity was on this machine it will not show any activation as it just uses the already present one.
if the activation was gone then something must have changed, like you replaced the main harddisk your windows / osx install was on or its a macbook pro and you previously installed it on osx and now tried to do so on windows too, which counts as 2 machines (as its machine + os that gives the machine bind, not purely hardware)
This issue ticks me off, because I need/want/have to/ use 3 machines. I use 2 desktops (one mac, one pc) and one macbook for travel and work, and I can’t get anything done on the macbook while I travel.
I’m a perfectly legit paying customer, I don’t see why I can’t register 3 machines for my use. I do not understand it.
There should be a “phone home” technology so that I can move my licenses around. This way, they can detect if people try to cheat the system with the license being used simultaneously on 3 machines. In my case it is used on one machine at one time (when I’m sitting at it!)
So I don’t see the problem in improving this activation process a bit. I want to use my own machines.
I’ve currently some major problems with performance anomalies on my all new MBP 2011 Core i7 and might need to bring it in but have an iOS contract, so I would be forced to temporally transfer the install back to my old MBP 2008 on lion to then bring it over to the 2011 afterwards … wouldn’t mind paying $500 to add another permanent machine to my license …
Nothing has changed, although I am suspect that I may know the cause.
I have an Alienware M11X which can switch its Video from Integrated to an accelerated Nvidia GPU. I wonder if when it was last activated it was using one or the other and if that can effect the ‘Fingerprint’ I tested this and tried activating with either hardware and neither of them would activate, so thats probably not the reason.
The only other difference was that I had an external Harddrive plugged in that wasn’t present when it was last activated.
Regarding the limited activation system, I would be happy to opt for a ‘Login/Password’ system to validate the features and use the offline mode for the limited activations.
Locking people out from using their License is a big issue that costs people time and money.
You need to contact support@unity3d.com for license related things. Ensure to use a meaningful subject so the support can route it adequately so you get handled fast
I’ve upgraded ram on my win machine and it didn’t touch the licensing at all
fast swapping of licenses ie twice a day would be common for me, prefer it online and automated
or just give us 3 installs so I don’t mess around all the time. 2 is too risky.
This isn’t an issue for 3dsmax for gods sake, I can transfer licenses, and back in the day all you did was move dongles. This 2 install business is a bit rough and ready.
Any suggestions for a license migration tool or even additional purchasable license installs get my vote. Too many times I’ve had to hit the road at short notice, and wished to heck I could move my license from my mac pro over to my macbook. Dongles are very useful, but not infallable (I use a dongle for Maya… extremely convenient, until my wife “tidies up” :p).
My suggestion would be a simple online deactivation option - ZBrush uses this method, and it does the trick nicely. Seems the obvious choice since installs are reactivated online/manually anyway.
Wow yes please unity! yes please, automatic activation and deactivation so I can move it on and off my lappy
Or move it to my work pc and my laptop then when I get home, move to home pc and mac!
Possibilities are then endless.
Last year, and I emailed support recently and it took them two weeks to get back to me, by which time I’d already resolved the issue. So I don’t feel confident if one of my machines develops a problem. I respectfully request this feature is available.
The fact that cracked versions of unity become attractive to licensed users is bizarre and evidence that something could be improved on.
