Adaptive virtual characters in computer games

Hello everyone,

I am writing my master’s thesis and I am looking for a few algorithms for the Non-player characters in computer games. These algorithms must have influence on the virtual characters and their abilities, based on information coming from the player.

I will be grateful for any suggestions

Since you’re posting on a Unity forum, you may be interested in this paper published by fellow Unity developer Jeff Georgeson: NPCs as People, Too: The Extreme AI Personality Engine. It describes Jeff’s Extreme AI engine, Love/Hate, and some other products and papers that aren’t specific to Unity. The references at the end of the paper are full of good stuff.

If you can also get your hands on the out-of-print AI Game Programming Wisdom series, they’re a goldmine of practical algorithms and architectures for NPCs.
