Add and playback mp4 files in Timeline

In past projects I’ve made use of Timeline to create short 2D video content.
Now I would like to use Timeline to also control imported mp4 files, but can’t get it to work.

I tried getting it to work by adding the video file to

  • An unlit plane
  • A RawImage in Canvas (only audio as a result)
Unfortunately the video only played on Awake.

Is there a way to control mp4 files in the Timeline?

Thanks!

Do other formats on the timeline work fine?

The problem may lie not in the program but in the file itself. It is possible that incorrect settings were set when recording a video or saving it to your device. Thus, the MPEG4 codec has been replaced with one that does not reproduce sound in the editor. I had the same situation when I recorded an interview on two cameras. The second camera saved a file with incorrect default settings. The only thing that helped me was to convert the file through the converter by setting the correct properties of the output file.
