Basically, should I train a friend of mine to help me out with programming and modeling or just progress through development alone? I am a little less than halfway through with my game(maybe around 35-45%).
Rather than halting production to train your friend (who by definition won’t be very good at what you train him to do, he just started doing it), bring on someone who already knows what they’re doing and have them help you get your game done sooner.
Ya, same deal here really - most of my friends are unreliable where development comes in so i’m going it alone. My solution has been hiring out people for aspects of the game i’m not well suited for (modelling/art/sound) and focusing on my own skillset (programming/design). Would be nice to find someone but it seems quite difficult.
The main reason I wanted to train a friend is to give him a jump start on modeling then he can progress himself further. I am mostly a programmer and I hate modeling lol.
And the reason I wanted my friend instead of finding someone who knows what there doings is due to distance. I am aware of things such as skype and dropbox but I wanted someone I could interact with face to face. If tou guys still think its a bad idea I will suck it up and outsource to someone who can already model well.
Thanks for the replies so fast btw lol
If you are patient, work with him. The worst that can happen is the art is worse than you have now.
show him about 3d modeling, if he actually likes it then sure train him, you will have a lot of fun working with him, but if he doesn´t like it too much dont spend your time knowing that he will stop modeling later on
