This has been reported before, but it seems really quite major!
Occasionally saving addressables causes them to lose their references. It seems to do this more or less at random, and the only way to tell that it’s happened is to spot it in source control. If not reset, it can cause addressables not to build properly.
I’ve seen this across multiple projects on various versions of Addressables/Unity.
If someone from Unity could reply to state if this is a recognised bug it would be great.
I’ve actually seen this happen a lot, randomly changing it either way. It’s quite annoying to see it in source control, but so far it hasn’t been an issue for me. All the references still seem to work whether the fileIDs are there or not (hence why I never filed a bug report), but that might depend what kind of assets are addressable.
Yeah it seems quite common to me too!
I had assumed it was related to issues I’ve had with addressables losing references/failing to build/generally breaking horribly - I’ve been fairly certain this has been the root cause at least once, but it’s so hard to tell!
As ever, if someone from Unity could weigh in it would be incredibly handy!
I’ll flag this for the team to have a look, and pass along any insight or guidance they have.
Hey there! Sorry for the late response on this one! Looks like your best bet is to file a bug report: Unity QA: Building quality with passion
