Advice on ceramic needed

Hello!

I am trying to make a ceramic texture.
Here is what I’ve got so far:

I am totally unhappy with the look. I am unable to create such a gloss as in the reference image on the left.
Could anybody give me an advice on how to achieve this look?
Do I need to use SSS or what else might I be missing in the Standard Shader, please?
Thank you!

Suggestions:

  • Make smoothness higher for sharp reflections.
  • Use Screen-Space reflections on camera (instant +50% of awesomeness for this material).
  • Make Albedo brighter - too dark now (imho).
  • Use more interesting (brighter, with contrast and many light sources) environment for material/model creation & testing (like Unity Asset Store - The Best Assets for Game Making ).

Also this FAQ contains some useful tricks for better material appearance, even if its non-metal but still reflective.

@Lex4art
SSR is a great idea. However, my entire scene becomes very glossy when I use it.
What do you suggest on how I should handle this?
Do I have to put the vase into a certain render layer or so?

Just play with that stuff a week - guess it’s question of making familiar that PBR-stuff. PBR has potential but it’s requires artist’s experience to use it. Watching youtube videos and free example scenes (Unity Asset Store - The Best Assets for Game Making ) also can helps this process.

@Lex4art I am not 100% happy yet, but I think I am moving in the right direction:

Thank you so much again for pointing me to the Shader Calibration scene. That was a big help!
