Advice On Starting Point

Hello everyone!
I currently have an idea for an extremely simple 3rd person action adventure game that I would like to be networked. At most it would only be 10 people on one server ( only friends). Think of servers from terraria and or minecraft, but the environment would not change. Sadly, my programming skills are only in basic c#(and Arduino but that does not count haha) and I have no experience with networking yet. So my question could I start to develop the game in single player and later transfer to a photon/raknet/fox server or do I need to start development for networking immediately?

Thank you for your time,
B

I hope this is the right thread…

I don’t have any network programming experience either, but I’ll give you my personal opinion.

Just start with getting the game functional.

There is SO much work to be done before the networking side begins. You can always build your classes / objects with network traffic in mind though. Think about what information you’re going to be passing across the network. You don’t want to pass any information across that wont be used, but if networking works in the sense that you pass objects across, you don’t want to take up bandwidth with shit that wont be of any use. But that’s still not a huge deal, because you can always go back and break apart your classes if need be (of course that always has the chance of causing complications).

Anyways, that’s my 2cents.
