Hi, I need help making a decision. I wanted to make a sort of Portal/Prometheus style of game (fps puzzle game, your a test subject, etc) and I had two ideas but i’m not sure which one to choose. My first idea was to give the player a device that condenses matter into a solid object that you can use as a platform (the platforms can move in the direction you aim them, but they can’t go up or down), and you create these platforms and use them to solve the levels. There would be other extra things in the levels that would act as other things to solve the levels (example: the lasers and the jump-pads in portal were other things used to solve the levels in portal). This game would be better than it sounds. The second idea was to give the player a device that created a sort of rift in space that takes you to other “dimensions” where something is different. Like you step through the rift and everything is reversed like a mirror dimension, or you step through it and everything moves a little bit slower or faster. There would also be extra things to solve the levels in this one too. No matter which one I choose, I would like to make a level creator. The problem here is I personally like the second idea better, but I think the first idea would have a better level maker because it might have more of those extra things, so people could make more complex levels. Which idea do you think sounds better?
Metroid Prime 2: Echoes used the alternate dimension, and it was a ton of fun.
I think that it would fit great with a game that is purely about puzzles.
