After the End - New survival Zombie Game

Hey guys
First off, we are two guys, my friend makes all the programming by himself and im making all the art (animations, rigs, models, sound design, music, GUi etc). Those are two big tasks for only two people so please dont be to hard with our game, even tough i think its making good progress.

About the game:

Its a (at the moment - it might change) top down survival shooter with some small RPG elements (MP not included - Maybe co-op after we have a stable game). We have a full randomly generated world, so everytime u enter the game there are diffrent buildings on diffrent spots with diffrent loot. Zombs get attracted to sound and view (maybe we will even add light). The game is heavly based on realism (except the graphics, i meant it more gameplay wise). So ur able to smash windows and enter trough there if the doors locked, u can craft weapons and cook food, since u get thirsty, tired, hungry or infected. There are gonna be cars (already modeld but not implemented yet). We have already a fully working character customization, so u can equip hats, diffrent backpacks with diffrent inventory sizes, body clothes and armor vests. We are planning to make even special infected like in L4D but atm there is only normal zombies. And like i sayd we are really trying to get the game as realistic as possible, so if ur locked out ur not gonna think “why the hell cant he just go out the window”. We are gonna have survivors with diffrent skills all over the world, u can send them on loot missions and maybe (idk yet) u can even take them with u on missions.

More infos in the videos (weekly or sometimes monthly updates) This game is in development since 1 month now, we had a previous version of the game wich we worked about half a year on but we changed almost everything cause we tought we can do better than that! Enjoy the videos, subscribing or following on twitter is free and noone forces u

Thanks for reading my thread and sorry for my english, its not my native language

I cant stress enough how many games like this are beeing planned/made everyday now. I did enjoy the absolute HELL out of L4D for months, and then Dead Island. Zombies has now become a trend in gaming and i fear its gonna die off completely if ppl keep doing this so much.

Personally i’d like to see more “Mutants” or “Aliens” in simular settings, or even Paranormal acvitivy games insted of zombies as i feel they have been battered to death by devs.

Sorry if i come off like a moron, it sounds good dont get me wrong, but pretty much everything u have described has been done very simular, and good ideas deserve a chance.

Imagine the latest Xcom beeing like L4D? it would be something…

The random levels is a nice touch tho, i think that might save this zombiegame from beeing put in the now VERY large zombiegame bin. Customization is also very nice, beeing able to personalize ur character in a world like this is a huge plus. Crafting was done in Dead Island but poorly, so i think this gives u some room to play with, and cars…? yes, put em in, i wanna drive over zombies again, beats shooting them in the face anyday!

Sounds very similar to the next thing that I’m working on. Best of luck with your project! Love the name

You should never see that as a reason to NOT make a particular type of game. The reason so many are being planned/made is that people love this kind of game, and there’s a big audience for it. You also need to remember that of all those games being planned/made, 99% of them are rubbish and/or will never actually be released.

didnt say dont make the game.

and yes i agree with ur %, atleast 99 of “these” games is trash.

I was just pointing out that there’s no need to even mention it at all as a “negative thing”.

Well if u mean 99% of these games beeing rubbish, it certianly can be.

This game already contains things that can make it shine, like my original posts states, sofar so good.

Your youtube channel has a lot of cool videos that show off the game. You should consider embedding some of those videos in this thread to make sure that people see them!

Thanks for your comment. And i actually agree, there is sooo many zombie games that came out and are in progress rightnow, but somehow this never was a problem for me cause IMO, zombie games are just always fun. And like you and SteveJ mentioned, there is like no good one (except Project Zomboid) atm. But its not even cause they have to bad graphics or cause they have some tecnically bugs or something, the thing that makes them bad to me is just that u cant do anything there. There just not enough possibilitys that it would feel good. Thats why i love zomboid, this little small top down 2D indie game beats all the AAA games like dead island, Dead rising etc cause its just so incredibly realistic. And thats why i think, if our game turns out well and like we are planning now, we have definitly a chance (and even if it fails, its always a good thing to add to the Portfolio) to get a small bit of sucess. Hope u understand what i mean, even with my bad english ^^ Thanks again for your comment

Hey, got anything to share with us abour your game? Always pumped to meet new Indie Zombie Games  And thanks for your support and comment

I agree that Project Zomboid is very nicely made, other than two things:

  1. Project Zomboid is a TERRIBLE name

  2. After about an hour it just hits a wall when you realise there’s really nothing more to it than you’ve already seen. I turned it off at that point and haven’t felt a need to go back. Maybe once they reach their final version… and actually, that raises number 3:

  3. They’ve gone the route of releasing in Alpha, but it doesn’t work for them. Their game lacks a lot of polish and when they finally announce that v1.0 is out, I think a lot of people who’ve played the Alpha/Beta versions will be over it.
