Aliens, Trolls & Dragons - TPP Action/Adventure/Shooter with VR support

Aliens, Trolls & Dragons is a Third Person Perspective, Action/Adventure game with native Oculus Rift support (and also on standard monitors). It will be released as a single player experience on PC and Mac in a form of episodes. The first one is expected to ship this Fall.

Announce trailer:

Story:

It is the near future. Thanks to rapid progress in the field of spacecraft propulsion, we were able to reach distant planets and discover intelligent life. The aliens very much resemble us, their civilization is comparable to our medieval times. A manned mission is sent to the planet, but the lander crashes because of unknown reasons. The wreck is looted and the crew is captured and taken by the locals. You are the cheif security officer of the landing party and your job is to fix all this mess.

Aliens, Trolls & Dragons will be heavly story driven. It’s essentially a clash between science fiction and fantasy. You will have a chance to test advanced technology and weapons against warriors and monsters living on this planet, that strikingly resembles what we know from fantasy stories.

About me:

The game is developed only by me alone. I am an animator by profession. I have a nine year experience in AAA game development industry. I was a lead animator at People Can Fly (Epic Games Poland) for 5 years, during which I’ve worked on Bulletstorm and Gears of War: Judgment. I also was involved in making of Gears of War PC, Unreal Tournament III, Infinity Blade II. Not long ago I joined CD Projekt RED to be a part of the Witcher III animation department and this is still true, however I had to limit my workload there, to be able to develop Aliens, Trolls & Dragons. I’m also the creator of a short Oculus Rift experience “Malfunction”.

Additional technical info:

Besides Virtual Reality mode, Aliens, Trolls & Dragons will also be availabe to play on a normal display, without Oculus Rift. It will also support Side-By-Side 3D stereo mode for those with 3D display monitors.

It’s developed with Unity, entirely with PlayMaker!

I hope you like it

Looks cool. hope it is released early this fall

Ok, so here’s the gameplay (12 minutes), in 2 versions:

For normal monitors:

For Oculus Rift:

Enjoy!

Great , i like originality , it changes from all medieval clones games
I just find the transparent panels around the screen that takes too much space, the could be dynamic and appear only when needed, they seem to diminusih in some way the screen area.
Didn’t know Playmaker would be good for bigger games than small demos ?
Great character and levels , did you made them yourself or outsourced them ?

I wish you a great success.

Characters I made myself from scratch. Level meshing and lighting is mine, but the level assets are mainly Michael O’s.

You have great talents, impressive work for a one man project, reminds me in some ways Dark Messiah game.
I hope it will be a complete game compilation later as i’m not fond of episodic games.

This is the only way to do this with my budget and no $300 000 kickstarter. A TV series rather than Hollywood movie.

I think if you stay reasonnable you could successfully try kickstarter, it could help bringing full game instead of episodes ?

What shader system do you use , seems not simple shader but advanced one ?
It makes look your game look really as good as AAA titles.

I read about your blog on clothes system ( http://www.kubold.com/?p=264 ), just curious but did you used Unity cloth system on your game ?

I like the drone you pilot gameplay phase , it could unlock more gameplay possibilities if the drone could catch objects or click on switches like Puzzles or stuff to catch like in Zelda Skyward game ).

Kickstarter is a very very big thing, but maybe this is the way to do this… It would certainly gave some exposure and marketing. I’ll think about it some more.

Shaders come from Marmoset Skyshop of course :). I highly recommend it!

As for the drone, I plan to make more things like that for the player to use, sure

Hi,

I’m in the middle of making an animation controller for all NPC’s and enemies, so I thought I’ll show what I have so far. Still not perfect, but getting there

Ex lead animator from Epic Games Poland and works at Witcher III and on top of that he represents a pretty original game that proves he comes from an AAA Studio, but none the less this thread has so low attention… wow, just wow…

I’m pretty blown by your work! I’ll keep an eye of it as it looks and sounds really intresting.

I think your animations are pretty amazing, do you have a small motion capture station at home ( ) or do you truly animated each one per hand?

Looking forward for more!

Edit: Have you considered putting your game on IndieDB? Maybe you will reach many more people with your quality of work.

Looks great man! Judging by the look of those animations, I take it you have access to a little Mocap? :stuck_out_tongue:
Also, kudos on the voice talent. Really professional. Not some 16 year old trying to sound like a 30 year old xD
As for the HUD, it’s a little much. Quite sharp on the contrast levels between that and the environments.
Best of luck in your endeavors

Took 5 days of work to model and texture this guy. Now, John, the hero of Aliens, Trolls & Dragons, has a very good reason to save ammo… you don’t want to hear a click sound, when this dude is charging at you.

I also made a turntable with couple of animations on this guy (78 MB):

Wow!! just found this thread fantastic work sir! Your animation modeling and texturing is very impressive.

I just made an alien mount model. Took me just three days, form concept to rigged model, but I think it’s good enough to stay. So far I just made one animation so I can see it in game, it doesn’t have an AI or anything yet. The best part - I want the player to be able to ride it.

Very nice to see some progress on this, looks awesome!

Awesome! The story is so original, graphics & animations look sooooo good and the playability seems to be impressive. Hope this project will never be abandoned.

Keep up the great work!

Your game looks lot better and lot more interesting than Unity 5 official demo
The best graphics Unity game.

Fantastic work, one of the best Unity creations I have ever seen. Finally somebody who knows how to do stuff.
