My current apps on the store all min OS requirements of 2.0 or 2.1. Does that mean they will be removed from the AppStore unless they get updated?
That wouldn’t be such a bad thing. I’m can easily update my apps and such a rule would clean out a lot of old abandoned apps.

Apple has a blacklist. apps ending on there do not even start anymore.
But stop of approval does not mean anything to the rest, but I would take it as granted that its gone from the store too then, so no longer buyable.
people on os2 don’t buy games and use their device for anything anyway. the statistics show that 90%+ of all users are on os3 and that the itouch 2nd gen who all had to buy the upgrade too, are the second largest percentage in the whole figure (reasonable as they were on sale for 2 years now, as the cheapest “3rd gen itouch” is a second gen itouch too)

Yes, interesting. I don´t feel like that´s such a big deal though with OS 3 since it runs reasonably fine on all devices, just good to know, thanks for the reminder.
Something like this would have a much bigger impact though if let´s say next year Apple would say the App Store will no longer support applications that target iOS 3.x, since that would then really cut off several older device generations (for which iOS 4 is not available at all or doesn´t run wel on em). I wonder if they´ll do that at some point or thanks to the less backwards compatibility of iOS 4 iOS 3 will be accepted way longer than until the next OS version comes out.
apple will say that and it won’t be a problem anymore either as 2nd gen devices will drop out of support completely then.

A while ago i wouldn´t have thought so but then i thought about how it goes with the iDevices market and that reminded me how fast moving the evolution of the iDevices really is.
I mean new iPhone each year, new iPod touch in close distance.
iOS gets upgraded in very similar cycles and meanwhile to a degree where older devices don´t get supported (well) at all anymore with major releases as ressource requirements are pushed further more than the old devices can handle (nicely).
Add on top of that things like the battery not being exchangable so it automatically can´t be used for more than 2-4 years at most and phone contracts running out in 2-3 years in most countries so people upgrading every few years automatically and hey, the iPhone sure is the target platform with quickest turnaround for device generations compared to let´s say consoles and handhelds.
So common and usual to us one hardly thinks about it usually, but when one does its actually a bit crazy =)
I doubt we will see iTouch 4th gen actually as it does not make much sense, at least if we consider it to be a non phone iphone counterpart.
screens like the retina are not available at all (apple likely has bought up the whole stock till 2011 to even serve the iphone orders) so if there was one it would have a worse screen → won’t find that many friends
the only thing that would make sense would be a refreshed 3GS with just the A4 and more RAM, potentially with some intermediate screensize, which i doubt we will see happen as 3 distinct ones are already enough to feed. more diversity and apply burns itself
Every year there’s been an iPod touch equivalent of the current iPhone model, so it would make less sense for them to break this trend now given the huge expectations in place. By September production should be sorted out.

right every year there was one but in no year so far, the advancement on the tech was that little as it was this year cause the only advance technically was the retina and that one will not happen for granted as apple cant even feed their iphones enough with them.
the cpu is just a clocked down ipad one, the gpu is even last years …
give me 3 reasons why people should want to upgrade other the obvious one (having a fucked up itouch 2nd gen which currently makes over a third of all idevices)
How do we do that? The iPhone SDK Version setting in Unity only goes up to 3.2. I have Unity iPhone Basic 1.7. Is there a newer version that I missed?
Unity 3.0 Beta is the version you don’t have. 
You just set it to whatever you want in Unity and then you have to set the Base SDK to 4 in XCode.
I built 3 unity apps today, 1 for ipad/iphone (3.2 compliant), and the other two were built for OS 4… Fast app switching works a treat.
Yes, some good points and one can never tell for sure for 100% what they´ll do
until they announce it officially but i think one could equally find several good points for why there will be and should be a new iPod touch this year, too =)
Here are some:
-The biggest parts providers for the iDevices have ramped up production some more and are also building a new factory, this will kick up production amounts massively very soon.
We can already see it here in germany where last week the telecom said wait times for second shipment would be 6-8 weeks and now they say they will have steady stock in 2 weeks.
Next up the way Apple works with these devices is that they only have at most 2 generations of each device type on the store, they always put a new gen out each year with some new functionality and that way they can always keep on selling the stuff at high pricing.
So just moneywise it already makes a lot of sense for them to release a new iPod touch version each year, too, that way they just keep their premium pricing in place.
Next up while i agree that at first glance it might not seem like a ton of new stuff is in this new device gen, what is there is a pretty big deal to many users and companies.
The screen alone is much better and that´s a big deal for a device one, you know, constantly looks at.
What would excite me most though would be if they´d really go and add facetime support to iPod touches, too, and i think that´s their most powerful card to play right now.
That would turn the iPod touch into a semi phone (ok, only in wifi range), freeing Apple to a good degree more from the biggest technical limitation the iPhone has: depending on the behind the times and overly money hungry telecom companies to a good degree.
The telecoms net infrastructure is not good enough to handle many iPhones being used at full capacity in many countries and still the telecoms ask for ridiculous monthly fees for flatrates and on top of that ask for additional fees for services the user already paid for with his base contract (like using tethering which is connecting the iPhone to another computer to use the iPhone´s internet connection on the computer, hello, its the same data volume you already paid for…).(funny note: did you know if you have tethering you can use facetime in 3g, too? 
)
So yeah, in the recent past apple statements become more and more to the point that they state openly that they are not happy with the telecoms on several ends, i´m sure they´d like to free themselves from those as much as possible and that way also be able to put more pressure on em on those ends they want to be changed.
I think that´s exciting, i´m generally against monopolies and think Apple is going dangerously close to becoming one in the smartphone sector, but at least they are using their force to put some pressure on the telcos so those improve their service quality and pricing some more.
