Alt-Enter not work for line breaks in GUIText?

As the title says…I have read the documentation and searched the forums for entering multiline text into the text field of GUIText and the documentation and the forum responses say that Alt-Enter on Windows causes a newline to be inserted but that doesn’t happen…instead it just beeps when I try to use it and it turns the Hand Icon to the Eye where the transform, rotation, scale, ect selection buttons are.

In every forum post about it I have ran into someone brings it up but gets no response regarding it. The only way I have found to enter multiline text in GUIText outside of scripting it is to write it in a word processor how you want it to appear then copy and paste and it displays correctly, instead of one long line of text if you enter it directly into the text field.

Am I missing something or is scripting or copy/paste the only way to do it in Windows currently? I don’t use it much without scripting but just curious.

In project view Create->JavaScript

put in:

var s:String = "My Text";
function OnGUI()
{
    s = GUILayout.TextArea(s);
}

Drag created file onto any of game objects in hierarchy view.

Done.
