Am I alone here when I say almost all vegetation needs to calm down?

Okay, not the biggest of deals, BUT is it just me or is it whenever you see a vegetation asset they are always whipping around like it’s a hurricane?

Like is it just me?

I’m yet to buy a tree, bush, or grass that isn’t going nuts with animation.

I have NEVER seen an asset that has a gentle breeze sway.

Am I alone here?

Is it just me?

Anyway, sorry for the needlessly nit picky post.

But maybe if you’re making vegetation assets, calm it down a little?

These are just to present, what you can do with it.
The calm you can se on the picture

I don’t use such assets, but I am sure (for most), you can easily change settings. I.e. shader value.
But best, is to ask an author of the asset.

Somewhat related.

Moving grass is a great way to make a player sick in VR.

I Played No Man’s sky, found an amazing planet with beautiful landscape, landed in the middle of a grass field… the game started a storm, which made entire grass field wobble in waves.

That was one of the most powerful nausea inducers I ever saw in VR. At this point I could freely use continuous movement, and jump/run around, still got nausea in matter of minutes from that.

I suspected as much for VR.

We almost only buy nature assets from NatureManufacture and they have sensible values for their wind zones :stuck_out_tongue:

Though foliage to this date doesn’t look great, more so in Unity than other engines.

It really boils down to the Wind Zone properties (plus its position) and what shaders do with them.
As a suggestion, you can always fork your own speed tree shader (or whatever in use) and make wind as you like.

You haven’t seen vegetation in a hurricane until you’ve hidden behind a bush in Escape from Tarkov :stuck_out_tongue:

You never have seen a hurricane until it goes over your house and you watch oak trees whipping around. Sorry Joe!

Most annoying is the way grass/foliage is often shown moving all together back and forth in unison like a Walt Disney waltz.
You don’t even need VR to get motion sickness!!

I call it immersion
