An Ingress-inspired gameplay

Hello ladies and gentlemen,
As a fairly new Unity user, I have spent the last few weeks toying around with all the features the editor has to offer. Even though I struggled quite a lot in my early days, I am now getting used to the interface and global methodology of the software.
I acquired uScript and I must admit that I am absolutely speechless before the endless possibilities such a tool brings to the table for a humble non-coder such as myself.

I have now reached a level where I am fairly confident in my ability to produce some sort of gameplay from scratch and that inspired me so much that I suddenly came up with an overwhelming amount of concepts, and out of these, one seemed very fun and gratifying to work on : an Ingress-like, global strategy game.
For those who do not know about Ingress, it is (short version) a GPS-based AR mobile game, whose gameplay revolves around geo-localized spots that you have to capture.
Digging further on the asset store, i found an asset that looked like a wonderful starting point : Unity Asset Store - The Best Assets for Game Making
It seems to work very well.

Having all this at my disposal, I came up with a bunch of crucial questions bzfore I wanted to start the actual development : Is Unity really fitted for such a game ? As stated before I am okay with building the “gameplay” but my issue Is that the networking, and server part of such a software is largely a mystery to me. If I ever came up with a scrap gameplay, how hard would it be to set up server-side ? (Small scale, for test purposes) ? Do I have to build myself some proper networking knowledge or are there tools/assets that can help in that scenario?

Sorry in advance if my questions were unclear, if the post was too long or if it is in the wrong catégorie
Regards
Me

unity is fitted for such a game. as a point of reference, pokemon go - niantic’s follow-up to ingress - was made with unity.

it’s hard to answer your server questions. if you want more advice on this front, i suggest you come up with a list of interactions that would need to be server driven, and then start figuring out how difficult each of those things would be to pull off.

Thanks for your answer, I will try to learn the basics offre networking so that I can figure out such a list
Have a nice day
