Aww, that’s so cute
Amazingly lovely graphics throughout the app. And all without being cheesy. Really liking the tone of the project. Great work !
I’d die to get to know your process of the actual book and animation creation.
Working on something like that myself right now and it’s a pain in the ass
Was it more a programming, animation or modeling task ? To make the book look so realistic, yet work in realtime. Is each page handled individually ? Or do they spawn on usage ? What part is the physics you are talking about ? Tell your inner secret ^^
I just watched a behindthescenes video on the rumpelstiltskin project but they didn’t tell what the tricky magic was in the end
We’re more than happy to share the processes used to create this project.
Each page is a separate scene, so we make sure that each scene doesn’t contain a lot of data so flipping pages appear to be seamless. We also find that working in smaller scene is easier to manage than putting everything into a single scene and spawning the objects, that way we can control and test each page easily. Also we make sure to prefabs everything as much as we can so any changes will propagate throughout the scenes.
The physics is simply rigidbody. For example, you can drag the ball with your finger and throw them around and they would bounce around quite realistically. There are also other objects in the book such as a mouse with a long tail that behaves like a rope as you drag the mouse around with your finger, etc. and a star that floats in the air emitting sparkles etc.
Btw, I checked out your site, you have a very nice portfolio.
Ah, so you meant the physics more on the movable objects not the actual book pages.
I noticed some sort of blending out effect when the pages turn - almost not visible but it’s there. I think I just have too much ambition of making it look perfect from every angle, when the book itself is not the important part, but the stuff that’s on the pages and is moving and cool to look at.
Also I noticed that your book doesn’t dynamically scale the thickness according to the amount of pages you turn. That is such a clever trick. Nobody cares about that, yet my brain imploded on actually trying to find a way around it just via animation ^^
I just checked your site - “Dead Escape” - what a wide range of genres you guys cover
Anyways, enough blabbering, I’m sry for getting into this thread.
I’ll just say it again:
What a bunch of nice work that was done on this project. Topnotch, professional work - I tip my hat to that
Thanks Acumen. About the variety of genres… we were initially going to focus on horror… but as you know, sometimes ideas just pop out of nowhere and it is very tempting to realize it
