Analysis of entertainment

Have you ever noticed when you visit a gaming forum or a Youtube video the number of people expressing negative opinions about X video game or Y video?
I think we all have.
I get it if you don’t like something. What bothers me greatly is something I call Subjective Analysis of whatever it is you’re forming an opinion on.
I define Subjective Analysis as a person backing up their opinion by citing seemingly legitimate examples.
“I don’t like Call of Duty because of all the snotty kids who play”
“I think the AC-130 in Call of Duty is OP because the 40mm cannon has too wide a blast”
“I think the Xbox is for shooter and racing junkies who are all snotty kids”
“The shotgun in Halo is OP because its an instant kill at seven feet” (what the F*** are you doing at a seven foot distance in a shooter?!)
Just four examples I’ve sort of invented. Each one has something someone can relate to.
The people who make this S*** up are usually people with zero to none experience with said thingy. They’re also usually already pre-opposed to the subject at hand. They’re one of two categories: the maker, or the tool. The tool’s republish these biases. The makers invent them.

First post on the forums. I’m not sure if you know or not, but this is a game development forum.
In all honesty, it sounds like you are looking for an excuse to look down on certain opinions, and insult their authors.

As a human being you’re incapable of perceiving something objectively. As you’re limited to your own senses and interpretation of them. All of it is subjective.

A person does not need to “back up” their opinion with anything. In case of videogames, their opinion was formed by their gaming experience. Also, it does not matter how much experience they had. It is possible to start liking/hating something after seeing the main menu. By defautl, they really feel/think this way. To them their viewpoint is reasonable.

If you’re actually interested in making games then this kind of stuff is FEEDBACK, which can be valuable. You can look at this stuff and see if there’s a problem you want to fix. Dismissing feedback of somebody who doesn’t have a PhD in the game is a lost opportunity to improve your product.

I think the real irony here is how the OP is complaining about the very thing they’re doing in the exact same way they’re describing.

Games are an experience and people are entitled to their opinions on a game and on their experience in the game, no matter how silly they may seem to you. I suggest you do not frequent these sorts of sites if you really do not want to read what others have to say.

Yea… off topic and a ultimately an pointless and non-productive discussion topic for these forums. Closing.
