Saw this and thought it quite thought provoking…
Not really provoking
Android users are, fairly said, the mobile counterpart to Linux users. There are many offering their stuff for free and so users expect to get stuff for free mainly and only pay if really forced / wanting something special. As such the situation will remain as it is until the devs start to no longer maintain stuff for free just like that.
The open source nature of the android makes really working protection a whole heck harder too
I say, f*k iphone, android for our new overlord.
I agree with Dreamora. The appeal of the Android phone is its openness - Linux style.
Of course you do. 
We’ve recently begun to port applications to the G1 ( / other android devices), but after watching activity it doesn’t seem like a terribly appealing market.
However, the app store is slamming out nearly 80 applications a day in Entertainment category alone, its getting very crowded in there 
Beeing crowded shouldn’t be a problem.
many small game devs on windows are able to work too and against Windows and the WWW, the AppStore is still a small empty place …
Its just a matter of time until “Big Fish alike” subnets, likely social subnets a la OpenFeint, will open up new possibilities for cross advertisement etc

But I understand what you mean regarding the cultural issues surrounding open source platforms.
If it wasn’t for visual studio - I’d be using Linux (and the various Apps that I have paid for on it) full time.
I guess we will have to wait and see if the G1 platform matures.
