I just finished up my Match-3 Game. Meteor Crush X.
GORGAXIAN SAFETY APPROVED!
It is meant to be a fun Space-Themed Match-3 game for the android phone, without ads or microtransactions. It is a tough sell to compete with free games though, even though they are riddled with ads.
In Meteor Crush X you get the following game modes.
Progression Mode - A normal mode where you gain points and go through the levels.
Zen Mode - An endless mode that your score stacks up forever.
Time Trial - A mode where you have to reach a specific score before the time runs out.
Time Attack - A mode where you battle a moving score bar as time reduces your points.
Quest Mode - The crowning achievement of Meteor Crush X, Quest Mode allows you to fly around in a 2d space ship, select planets and do Planet Quests, with 4 different types of planet quests. Each planet quest has a cooldown and can be repeated infinitely. There are currently 25 different planets and soon to be more.
The game is currently in the Open Beta phase of the Google Play store, if you would like to play it for free during Open Beta and give feedback, feel free! The link is here. https://play.google.com/apps/testing/com.GSC.MeteorCrushX
After becoming part of the beta program, you will need to ask for a Promo code which will permanently give you the App.
Then you will be able to find the app in the following location on your phone.
Play Store > Menu > My Games & Apps > Beta.
A good look at the game:
It looks ok. My only main thought is, 80% of match3 players are women, and they tend not to like any kind of space games. Just generalizing. But who is your audience? Most likely men would go for the visuals, but might not like the gameplay so much?
That is a valid point, but I would like to think women would also enjoy more than just crushing inaccurately tasty looking candies. Maybe I’m wrong, but I should definitely keep that in mind for my future products.
Here is a list of Promo Codes, first come first serve.
They expire the 31st so if they don’t get used then they get wasted.
Just go to Google Play, click the Menu, click Redeem, type in the code!
Thing is, if you are intending for women to play, then you are much more likely to attract them if the game looks feminine. You have a masculine color palette. You have masculine very angular sharp corners and flat edges instead of softer curves etc. You have a space theme which hugely appeals to men and much less to women. Really, as it stands now, it would be a great game for men to play if you wanted to try to tap into the 20% of men who play match3 games. If that was your intention then I would say you did really well with it. It’s just I don’t think most women are going to find this appealing.
