Still just a rumor, but its nice to see Unity landing some of the big names. This will certainly help boost the community and UT in general.
tbh it would be an unlikely thing, since they have their own engine, which is quite optimized for this type of gameplay. Why switch engines, in which they have invested millions of manhours/money? Better stick to it, and improve it.;
If they would go for a completely different gametype (e.g. rpg, shooter, etc… than a different engine choice would seem appropriate)
Sunk Cost Fallacy. Just because that have so much time and money invested in it doesn’t necessarily mean it’s cheaper and better to continue with it rather than switch away.
It could be that adding new features to their engine is a major hassle, and they’ve found that they can rewrite everything in Unity and still come out ahead over using their existing tech. Especially when it comes to publishing to multiple platforms.
Or it’s possible that this is just a rumor, and not true at all.
So we’ll just wait and see. I wouldn’t mind seeing Unity get more Marquis game exposure myself. Be that as it may, all the pontification in the world on the subject won’t change weather this is or isn’t really happening.
I hightly doubt it too unless the game is a total breach from the ‘massive reach’ that made angry bird the success it was
They have an engine thats html5 canvas but especially ‘trash droid’ capable, unity can’t run on trash droids (ARMV5 and ARMV6) at all which basically removes the vast majority of the eastern global android market.
That’s true, however, maybe this game is going to be higher end than Angry Birds was. Remember they can still use their old engine for continued Angry Birds updates.
So nobody actually read the article then?
“The pigs are said to be trapped on a desert island, tasked with building vehicles and contraptions in order to eat up a series of eggs.”
It’s not an Angry Birds game, so it makes perfect sense to use a different engine.
Did somebody say something about Angry Birds? I love angry birds! New Angry Birds game on Unity?! Scoffs Why fix what ain’t broke?
Exactamundo.
If the rumors are true, this will likely attract people to Unity.
Here’s another one; perhaps even more interesting.
They didn’t use an engine for Angry Birds, at least not in the same sense that Unity is an engine. It was written in Objective C/Java/Flash/Javascript depending on the target platform. The did use the Box2D Physics engine for the physics aspect of it but the rest was just coded.
If you read up on the challenges they faced, especially with the Android, it is understandable why they would be looking at an engine like Unity. Since whatever the new game is, they will surely want to get it on every device under the sun.
