I suppose it looks… okey-ish, maybe its that its static, bit it seems like its painted ON the ground itself.
Looks better, but still kind of feels like… its rendered ON the terrain instead of above it.
I agree with fholm here, what we really want is volumetric fog I think - i’m looking for just that for my own game actually.
I actually like it, but more for a potential use than the one you seem to be going for. This looks more like a VERY low-level mist effect like one would see coming in off the sea rather than actual fog.
I forgot to mention, Press “q” once in the webplayer, then you can move with WASD and mouse.
Look at the horizon where you can see the skybox, you will see that it is actually volumetric fog with a 2d noise.
Could be better with a 3d noise, but i dont want to install unity 4 yet.
This is volumetric fog, it seems to be painted on the terrain because there is nothing else on the scene to tell you its indeed 3d.
Tomorrow ill post a better webplayer.
You are way back than the camera far clipping distance, yet you still see the scene. Thats a bug for Unity or your graphics card.
uploaded a new webplayer. Try this one.

In the first web player it “really” feels like it’s painted over the terrain, as in if i go somewhere where there is fog, and go 1milimeter above terrain, and look “above”, there’s no fog, i only see the fog painted instead of the color on the terrain, i don’t have this impression on the 2nd player.
Well, the impression of volume fog gets more obvious when there are assets in the scene other than the terrain.
And this proves that a shader itself can not make your scene most beautiful without smiliar art work such as the sunny skybox.
If you must use a static skybox, and if you want to see a foggy skybox when you look up, you must use a suitable foggy skybox. Or, my “cheapsky” shader is in the assetstore for a dynamic skybox as well.
Here is one more simpler scene
Hi! Is this fog anywhere to buy or to download?
Yes its a part of my Aubergines PostProcess Effects pack.
Is it suitable for mobile?
Not this one, but i also finished a pack of shaders that will work on mobile and unity free. Its not animated and it has some problems with terrain billboard trees. I will add it to my aubergines shader pack when its optimised.
