Animation weights not imported

I am importing an animation file (as .mb and .fbx) into unity, but looks like the vertex weight information set up during maya animation is not preserved by unity after import. This results the animation being awful inside unity.

Does unity not support weights? or are there specifics required in the export settings?

Try changing the bones setting for all the quality settings (Edit > Project Settings > Quality)

The editor defaults to a middle quality setting, with only 2 bones per vertex used. May went to ramp that up to 4, or just change the editor quality to fantastic which should have 4 by default
