Animations uploaded to Unity

Hello again everyone.
I recently learned how to create animations in Autodesk Maya. I was told that Unity only reads .fbx files, which is what Maya can export. There is one thing though, I do not use the IK handle, or a character set. I simply make the model, attach the skeleton, and set key frames. Do I need the IK handle or the character set to successfully have my models animated in Unity?

Thank you very much for your time, I really appreciate it-

Just export to FBX and make sure you include the animations. Then import into Unity and make sure you choose “Legacy” for the animation when importing and you’ll be able to use the animator controller to play the animations.
