Another problem with lightmapping!

Hi! this is a build make in Cinema4d R11. Exported not with a fbx2010 file but the native .c4d!

in the image you can see that the “GENERATE LIGHTMAPS UVS” option is active!

now: why have I these artefacts? ( bigs darks shapes)

It looks like a problem with your textures or UV information.

I may use Max but it clearly looks like a texture issue or UV coordinates gone bad.

On a second look, did you properly weld your verts or do anything that might cause this error?

You could give some more information. It that lightmap created using Beast?
Have you applied any materials / textures?

Its a lighmap created using Beast! I don’t have applied any materials/textures. Can it be a normals problem? I remember that in Cinema4d there’s an option called “align normals”. May be it usefull?

help please :frowning:

is it a so diffucult problem?

It might be that there are overlapping polygons. Check your models in c4d again.

Might be, if you need someone help you out ;-). Are you creating game for iphone? PVR compression is utterly bad for lightmaps. Try to change lightmap texture to uncompressed and see if it work

also ensure that you beast lightmap in single map mode cause there is no dualmap mode on iOS / mobile

thank boys but this project is not for mobile devices! Is for a simple PC web project

hi hi !

It appears that UT offers you some goodies that they quickly get back to them when they want to implement some
commercial appealing stuff.
You’re messed up simply because you baked a lightmap taking the place of a second texture layer on your model.
You might ( just like me ) have used some UV1 for base mapping and the UV2 for ‘dirt and other stuff’ mapping on
your model. BEAST lightmap needs those UV2 to implement useless-for-you texture coordinates. If you need them
for a second map, this simply messes up the scene.
IMHO, BEAST lightmapping as it has been roughly implemented in Unity is just simple useless crap except for
especially unity targetted nice looking demos. or small project.
I got now in my scene some 10000+ objects that are just un-lightmappable ( except if i get a 128Gb VRAM
graphic board :stuck_out_tongue: lolz ). I started my proj without BEAST and will have to end it without BEAST, maybe with some
hack of shadowing. Unfortunately larsbertram’s shadows don’t work in U3 anymore.
Too bad Unity gets worse and worse as it progresses… i really hope for a massive rework so that new features
are a deep upgrade and not simple commercial strips.

Regards to all !

Hi there!

That mesh looks pretty screwed in regards to edges/overlapping polys, so you should definitely clean it up before trying to bake anything. Do some edgeturning in C4D and then try to reimport + bake. Should work
