Any new rumours or information on the nVidia GTX 6xx Series?

So did anyone hear anything about when or what price tags are expected for the GTX 6xx or GTX 7xx series of cards? I’m looking to upgrade my HD 5850 and switch to nVidia for once, and I was like “screw the GTX 580, I’m set on the next generation of nVidia GPUs!” Not to mention, maybe I should double my RAM or triple it on top of that… I’m sure 16 - 32 GB RAM and a GTX 680 sounds rather good to upgrade to right about now.

So, any words on what to expect? I searched around, and all of them sounded like rumours, but…if there are any facts on these new GPUs coming out, I’m all ears and eyes.

Current news is mid-march for mid-high-end, mid-april or so for higher/highest-end. I swapped to a 7970 from 570 SLI and was underwhelmed, so I returned the 7970 and am waiting for the GTX 6xx series to go SLI with (AMD’s crossfire drivers are horrible in my experience and everywhere I read about them). Performance rumors are all over the board, but typically the nvidia cards have turned out to be faster by a good margin than the comparable AMD parts in the lineups, though the past couple of times they’ve arrived a few months later as well (looks like this time too). Worth the wait, in my opinion :).

Sounds good… I was about to wait until around the April or May period at the earliest to upgrade from the crummy HD 5850 that I’ve had since Win 7 launched, and going to a GPU that I should have had in the first place. Might be holding out for the GTX 680 for sure…but time will tell. I was wowed when the GTX 580 3GB GPUs hit the market… I was tempted by those, but since we are close to the new generation, thought those would be more worth it…

Yeah, we’re close enough in that I’d recommend waiting at this point.

Some rather arbitrary choices?

Why not simply wait and see what the performance is?

What does this have to do with Unity or game development?

Perhaps you would be better served asking your question on a forum such as Tom’s Hardware or Ars Technica that is dedicated to conjecture concerning the latest graphics hardware.

Love to make sure I have the best GPU by the time Unity 3.5 launches, and to make sure that I’m utilizing hardware that’ll take advantage of its full potential…much like making sure I have enough juice to deal with renders in Maya or 3ds Max…plus let’s face it. I doubt I’d have the cash for a Quadro GPU, so a next-gen GTX 680 would have to do for now.

That’s what these Unity forums needs is a hardware section…since there are going to be people hoping that they’ll have some good stuff under the hood to run some high-end projects.

Anything 2 years old will be using 3.5 to it’s full potential :stuck_out_tongue:

Oh no mine is 3 :frowning:

Same here (Win 7 launch card)

Unity needs a cooking section and recipe section so I can decide on what I should have for lunch whilst working on my Unity project.

We also need two more sections called Digg and Reddit, that permit me to find things to distract me and allow me to procrastinate when I don’t want to work on my Unity project.

I think a hardware section is un needed as unity basicly runs on anything, Its just your game that slows it down.

 Why didn’t I see this coming?!

Guess I should have refered to it as the 780 this whole time! Woe’s me…

Your signature is gibberish and doesn’t make people like you more. Just saying.

Whos? if you ment mine, its just to show my progress and i find it funny that PUYA 3d would make a video of that?

I have no idea what you are talking about :frowning: to sleepy but have to stay up to play man vs. machine

How is it gibberish? I understand what it says. I also understand that he wasted too much money on bad speakers and got the wrong keyboard

Oh also he got the best mouse in the world <3

edit: actually not sure which signature hippo was referring to i guess.

Oh i see now, i should add my specs into my signiture… core 2 dinosour

I’m not sure waiting for the 6xx series will be worth the price tag. I bought the 460 last year, and have yet to find anything that will come close to stressing it, so the 5xx series should keep you going for a good long time. That said, if you do end up getting a 6 series I will be fairly envious. Perhaps your cash will be better spent upgrading your HD from sata2 to sata3? Also you might want a larger psu if you plan on jumping to a higher end gpu.

I hope you understand the irony in that.
