Any news about DSPGraph Audio Framework ?

I want to implement 3D audio and special effects sound in Unity. I stumbled upon a package in Unity related to this:

https://docs.unity3d.com/Packages/com.unity.audio.dspgraph@0.1/manual/index.html

However, it seems that the latest update was in Unity version 2022.1. Do you have any plans for this module in the future?

Currently there are no plans for further release of DSPGraph. It will continue to exist as an experimental package.

I’m genuinely curious what audio team at unity is doing all these years. There was zero updates to the audio sinse version 5 or so except dsp graph and recent audio random containers.

Hi sir!

I understand your feeling… I wish we could spend more time on improving the authoring experience. We do have a number of audio-enthusiasts here, but the work we have is more about stabilizing the behaviors across all platforms and improving performance.

Within the last years a lot of reshuffling happened and the team shrunk a bit, we’re now ~2.5 working on audio improvements. Our work is all happening under the hood. That being said, there is a road map for audio and video, but it’s about patience and momentum. Right now the energy is more focused on general AI-enhanced productivity, which does not align so much with the current sound design proposition of Unity.

But the age of audio will come back! With the XR era at our door, we will certainly step up our game!

I would love to see improvements to audio authoring and a modernization of the audio engine. It seems very few people have figured out how to add additional filters and fx to channels (Nothing on the asset store for example). Just some form of basic in-engine synthesis would open up a crazy amount of opportunities and ideas to play around with.

I hope your team gets the resources it needs and deserves, it’s crazy how the meme of game audio being an afterthought also extends to game engines… xD
