Anyone know where I can get a free jump animation that doesn’t involve flipping?
All I can find is the one that does a flip, and ones that land on different heights.
There is free mocap library called the CMU mocap library. You can turn any of those into a mecanim compatible animation inside of Unity. Try to google those. There are more than a few sites with links to them.
The biggest problem with the Carnegie Mellon mocap library is that it is very hard to find any animations that look good – let alone work.
I can’t dispute that. When I use it I do spend about 45 minutes or so finding something close to what I want. More times than not I do the animation in them that I need or something close enough that I can tweak. Truebones did a good job and making many of those more usable in Unity and Daz3D. Truebones also has great paid animations at reasonable prices.
One thing you can do is look through any free or cheap character models in the Asset Store or elsewhere, and see if any of those have a decent jump animation. With Mecanim’s easy retargeting, you can just grab animations from other models and use them on your own, even if you don’t plan on ever using the actual model you just bought. I’ve actually bought a couple of models without any intention of ever using them, just so I could steal the animations. ![]()
Now that is the best advice for this situation. It works seamlessly most of the time.
Thanks for the ideas guys!
