anybody has experience in Desura

who here has experience in uploading/selling games in Desura website?

wanted to ask since planning to develop and sell indie games later on

how do i update game file in desura? example were just going to add a new character, new stage etc etc

instead of having to upload the whole file

is there anyway to just upload just the new files?

game will be made in unity3d

I published my most recent game “Hide-n-Seek Winter” on Desura. Link
and its the only game I have published on Desura, my older games did not get accepted for various reasons like poor quality, etc. So make sure you really polish up your game and make it look nice.

Its actually a pretty long process of getting your game on Desura. Well I found it to be at least. It could take months. You need to have the majority of your game finished or fully finished and have a lot of things to show like trailer and screenshots from the game. Once you have enough to show you can submit the game to Desura (I mean you set up a page for your game not upload the actual game) So you would upload screenshots, trailers, description, etc. Once you do, your game will not be visible to anyone except yourself. You need to wait a while for the people at Desura to check out your game and then they will get back to you through email and tell you if they like it or not, you discuss pricing, etc. I was asked questions like “What is your game about?”,etc. Then you wait some more for another email saying your game has been authorized to be published on Desura, then you have access to upload your game files, set price, different versions, etc. You can upload and update your game easily, you can put different builds up like 2.0, etc.

As for pricing, I released my game for free so I am not fully sure how it works, but as I said above you can set the price for your game once it gets authorized and I believe they pay through paypal? I could be wrong though.

Overall Desura is a great website though and really helps get your game out there and noticed. Its pretty much like Steam except more indie based.

Good luck!

To continue with what snowconesolid said.

Pricing in Desura is quite simple, you simply put in a price for your game and it will convert it to other currencies (USD, EURO, GBP). There are some rules that Desura recommends you follow. These being that you should always have a .99 pricing and never an exact number. ($2 => $1.99) also Desura also recommends to sell your game above one dollar.

Payment is received after you’ve made $500.

XD i was going to ask how do i update a game there? instead of having to upload the whole unity3d file/project all the time

lets say we just added new characters and new stages…

how do we simply patch (just upload the new files) to whatever we already uploaded before instead of having to upload the whole unity3d file all the time?

“(I mean you set up a page for your game not upload the actual game)”

will a page/facebook page of my indie group do? or it really has to be a separate page for the game
