Now that the dust has cleared the 8.5 million received and people are starting to get their dev units… is anyone developing for OUYA out there? I’m starting to get OUYA Curious…
There are 500+ games already
Only about 60k are receiving Ouyas as shown by the kickstarter rewards… But I think I am going to pick one up when they actually start shipping. The concept of being able to play my game with a real controller on my TV is too cool.
I get mine sometime this week.
im looking forward to getting mine this week too. I’m not sure if I’ll make a game for it however. After doing game programming all day at work, I just want to play games, not make one. Maybe that will change once I get my hands on the hardware
Planning on making a game for the OUYA but I am also planning on playing other peoples games.
My plan is to use Havok’s Project Anarchy to make my game. Since they plan on realsing their mobile engine free anyway. ![]()
Clearly there are people. The more accurate question would be, which of us Unity users is developing for the Ouya?
My current project will go to the OUYA. Excited to get it and start getting it compatible.
Seeing your dream game run on a big tv screen with a proper game controller is an alluring idea especially if you have any background in the old-school days of the home computers which output to televisions e.g. Amiga/Atari etc or are a console fan… and also only if your game suits that input device. I’m working on a sidescrolling retro-ish shootemup, just a hobby thing (because all the competitive pressure is a major buzz disruptor), and have a Ouya on order so maybe at some point it’ll end up on there if it gets that far. I bought into the Ouya early when I was a lot more excited to get on there and be a launch title and all that but that’s not happening now so I’m not laid back about it. But it will be pretty neat to actually get one and play with it and dream some more.
I will be!.. eventually…
I’m not interested personally.
Hopefully, plan on porting my current project to it in late july.
TOB’s heading to Ouya.
I’m planning on putting my game on OUYA.
I am waiting for my ouya this month, I think some games will run better on OUYA with an actual controller then touch controls which I kind of hate.
Yeah, both my projects are going to support OUYA, hopefully one will be done within the next two weeks.
I am considering a OUYA/SHIELD port of my ongoing project and every future project.
Yeah the shield looked intersting but I would imagine its going to be pretty expensive in comparison to the ouya, especially since it seems to be targeting high end PC gamers.
TB has a 3 part video on project shield
Actually if you think of a handheld, we have only three options today.
1.SHIELD
2.PSVITA
3.3DS
Only first is indie-philic,other are pretty much phobic. So I kept it.
OUYA is definitely cheap and its appeal is not in the direction of handheld at all, rather console platforms.
When I think of Ouya, the really big draw for me isn’t really so much the Ouya itself but the TV. Since it hooks up to what for most people will be large flatscreen tv’s situated in comfortable living rooms, it puts more games into a much more social and relaxed environment. And the size of the screen itself is what attracts me. I mean, I have a 32" hdtv but I know many people go for much bigger sizes… and imagining my games on a really big screen like that is kind of like awesome. I’m not sure the Ouya hardware is a particular draw - it’s not all that powerful really, the box is cute and the controller is pretty nice, but it’s more the potential of the living room and the big screen that appeals to me.
