Why do we even have to confirm and be prompted about the credit card transaction… when these are free to us?
It’s pretty annoying and honestly, a little disturbing.

It’s pretty annoying and honestly, a little disturbing.
Why?
I thought it’s just away of confirming who you really are and your level 11 … If you purchase items from the asset store on a regular basis you give credit details then so why not now?
The free assets are not only free to us during their freebie month, they are also free to us after the freebie month (e.g. for re-download). But this only works if there is somewhere a proof that we have “purchased” the freebies. In order to have this fact in their records, you have to go through their purchase process. Even if it’s not a “real” purchase.
The other option would be that all freebies would be put into your records of purchases “by force” (we wouldn’t have to actively choose and “buy” the freebies that we want). But I would find that much more disturbing.
How they are currently handling it is a clean process initiated and chosen by me, not by them. I like that.
It could be “smoother” is the point I’m trying to make… I find that making the process of requiring a transaction of $0 being un-necessary and potentially problematic, when in reality, the transaction is never really completed on backend to the actual credit company.
Modifying how the “acceptance” of a freebie is transacted won’t delineate from your user experience, only enhance it.
However, If this is the best way they could work around the transaction system, then fine. I’ll obviously need to learn to deal.
They already know who I am when I enter level 11… it’s clearly marked on my Avatar. Providing crediting details on a false transaction is borderline deceptive in my opinion. That’s the “disturbing” part.
I find it annoying also.
Even worse is when the processing system declines the zero dollar transaction against a valid bank account containing more than zero dollars. Which happened today.
I have had that happen to me as well. I could not get the zero dollar order to go through. I don’t know if my credit card company was not allowing the zero dollar order or if Unity had a glitch in their form. Either way, I had to add a paid item to the order to get it above zero dollars. Then I could complete the order with the free Level 11 assets included in the order. Unity should fix this so we (Unity 5 Pro users) can really grab the Level 11 assets for free.
Great. So I guess another person that’s annoyed by Level 11 Purchase Processing is my bank.
They really need to fix this.
you will get a lot of things for free. I don’t have access to level 11, but they are quite pricey assets for free* (or 19$). Yet you are complaining about the few clicks… you shouldn’t ever complain, just be thankful.
It’s not really free if you paid for pro which value is already debatable to many (unless above 100k). The list of monthly items is also random so some of them may never get any use so I can see why small things can start to annoy people.
The extra couple of clicks is insignificant. Though it sounds like some folks are encountering bugs that are problematic. I’m on the lucky side of that issue, no problems for me so far.
I think it’s a nice perk. I have to use pro, so its a nice extra I didn’t have before.
For the first 3 months, the freebies have been a good mix. One that I already owned, one I didn’t need, and one that was of interest. And at least one or two discounted items I picked up. A nice program so far. And even if there is a month I get nothing, not a big deal really, I wasn’t getting them before.
I don’t want this to be confusing. I appreciate the perks, and that isn’t my complaint. If anything, I’m looking forward to more of them, because I know that Unity will hold true to it’s promise of such. So in that respect, I’m satisfied.
It’s an annoyance… and as a “club” member, I just want to express this and how it diminishes the experience.
I am not talking about a few extra clicks. I am talking about the Level 11 assets which are supposed to be free for Pro users, but cannot be purchased unless I add a paid for item to the shopping cart. If I try to select only the zero dollar Level 11 items, the transaction literally fails. I don’t know if it is a Unity bug or if my credit card company is intentionally blocking the zero dollar transaction. Either way, it results in me needing to pay for something else in order to get the free/included Level 11 assets each month. So even though I am a Unity 5 Pro user, I am not able to get the Level 11 assets completely for free.
As I mentioned I don’t have access to Level 11, so I was talking about that few clicks (you must have a paper of proof even when you pay 0$ for future reference)… If for getting those free assets you must buy something, then it’s definitely a bug. And it doesn’t make sense for Level 11 to work in that way, unless it’s not written in their TOS somewhere…
What if you select other free items?
@ShilohGames , definitely sounds like a bug. Dunno if it makes a difference, but I have only made purchases from the Asset Store using paypal, and don’t (can’t figure out how) have the express thingy turned on. When I go to “purchase” my Level 11 stuff, the check out panel comes up, and when I hit “Checkout” (or whatever the button says), it instantly goes to the purchase complete page. Completely skips the actual payment page.
You might try that, selecting paypal to check out. Don’t know if that will help, but might be worth a shot.
Interesting. I always use the express option with a stored credit card. That way I just need to enter my Unity password to pay for an asset. Maybe the bug only impacts specific types of transactions.
I can select multiple free Level 11 items, but if the total is zero dollars, the transaction fails. I always need to add an item that costs something to the order.
Other free items (not Level 11 items) work fine. For example, I can add free Unity projects like the Viking demo without any problem.
UPDATE: This month I was able to grab all of the free Level 11 assets without needing to add a paid item to the order. Maybe something got fixed/changed.
This month, and last I had it reject the transaction even with a saved credit information (express mode?)… I tried both in Unity and via a browser… after a couple attempts and confirming the purchase it went through. Not so smooth.
