Anyone interested in low-poly models?

I’ve been taking a break from programming and I’m spending some time learning blender. I’m just creating a bunch of simple low poly props. I’ve only created two so far (a large urn and a book) and trying to create them as low poly as possible… they can always be subdivided. I haven’t UV Unwrapped / textured them yet, just working on modelling for now but was curious as to whether anyone would be interested in them (for free of course). If so, I’ll post the .blend files where they can be downloaded. They’re nothing special, just some props… but they might save someone some time.

Edit: I should add that these are not from tutorials… purely my creation so there are no issues with usage.

People are generally only interested in completed models, not just the mesh. That means having vertex colors or textures that make them look good in a final scene. And depending on the style, it might also mean normal maps.

Sure.
I’ll need “quite a few” (read: tons) of simple models later. Not *that low-poly, but those should provide a great base to work on.
My plan was that to create a pack of “general purpose” models for free. Nothing fancy, probably not textured and definitively not high-poly. Just all kinds of stuff you see in various environments, so that you have things that you can drop in your scene so it doesn’t look so empty.

However, at the moment I spend almost all of my time I work with Unity in Visual Studio, so I’m not quite there yet.

That being said, if you were to run out of ideas, just let me know. I would happily compile a list of stuff I had in mind. Again, nothing fancy, just generic decoration. You’d have something to train with, I’d really appreciate the help and - since I wanted to make them free anyway - chances are quite a few other people will find them useful too. Even if it’s just for prototyping their scenes.
Oh yeah, and you’ll be credited either way.

Then it seems like I’m the exception to the rule. :stuck_out_tongue:

I do plan to UV Unwrap and create a basic texture for each. I’m creating a bunch first, then need to rescale them to make sure they’re real world scale. I was just curious if anyone was interested… they’re meant to be simple props, not anything full blown that I’m uploading to the asset store so I likely will not be spending the time to create normal maps, etc. Since I’ll be providing the source files, anyone that’s interested could do that if they wanted. :stuck_out_tongue:

Sure, throw out a list… I’m mostly just building a bunch of random stuff (props) to get some repetition using various tools in Blender and reinforcing the shortcuts.

I’ll do the list then. It should be done by tomorrow; Then I’ll post it here.
It’ll still be random stuff though.

so far I have a book and an urn… how much more random can it get?

I just subscribed to gametextures.com and it really makes me want to learn how to model. http://gametextures.com/ if you haven’t seen it.

Pretty good quality and comprehensive. I use blender for decimate and displace modifiers but not much else.

You should make some packs of items and throw em on the asset store for cheap. I’d buy some.

If I get some packs put together I’ll throw them up for free. There’s a lot of value in me creating the objects because I’m learning as I go, so someone else might as well get value from them as well. Besides… right now they’re pretty ultra-low poly (or as low as I can get anyway) so they’re really only good for prototyping or low-poly games.

Book: 64 verts, 62 Faces (Quads, so 124 Tris).

Urn: 506 Verts, 556 Faces (1084 Tris)

The Urn has so many because I solidified it (before adding the handles) so it would have an “inside” as well. If it were going to have a lid, could get rid of all of the interior geometry.

A roll of toilet paper?

You don’t happen to have a Google-account, do you?
That way I could make the list on Google Drive and let you strike out the items you have already finished. This would it make easier for me to continue where you left off once I’m done with Visual Studio.

Sure, or I could set you up on my TFS and you can just create a workitem. :stuck_out_tongue: I’ll PM you my Google account.

Thread moved to the Asset Store section? I wasn’t intending on putting it on the asset store. :stuck_out_tongue:

Assets and Asset Store”

The “and” part just seems so all inclusive. :stuck_out_tongue: Yeah I get why it was moved.

you should put your stuff up on the asset store anyways

I might, we’ll see how it goes and how happy I am with it when I’m done. I don’t want to put something up there unless I feel it’s asset store worthy quality.

Here’s your TP with normal visualization turned on:
