So I’m looking for a combination of VPN and temporary email service. If its under $20 a month I’d be good with that. The primary goal here is the temporary email service. This has been on a board in the dorms all summer, and I thought “this looks like someone was designing a game asset or something”.
So I put the text in purple up there at the top right. I just need a temporary email address, I have concerns about putting one of my email addresses on this board, don’t want a bunch of spam. I don’t live in this hall during the school year and its a secured building, I’m hoping that whomever wrote it is back. Maybe we could work together (or be friends).
The VPN thing I think might do just in case I ever find myself on public WiFi (which is rare). Its not necessarily a requirement, just thought I would kill two birds with one stone.
If you want more, most hosting services come with email addresses. I’ve spun up a few at boredmormongames.com for various reasons. It’s fairly easy to do.
its dumb as hell like gmail and stuff wants your phone number…
there’s all sorts of temporary emails and stuff, and even ways to get free texts to a public temporary thing (for those stupid account confirmations … i never use my real phone… well i dont own a smartphone…)
whatever happened to like … i remember in the dialup days, the local news… news on tv would always be like
“tips for internet - NEVER NEVER NEVER use your real name or information EVER, ANYWHERE NEVER EVER!!”
whatever happened to that??
… stupid post 9/11 police state world… lol
i seriously think like the GPS on phones, they have it so if youre a criminal theyre gonna send an automated drone to snipe you… totally doable at least… …they training people to conform to the privacy invasions and crap… what was the term… i saw some really great video about it… its like something conditioning…
Facebook, social media, and general permeation of the internet into everything.
In the early days of the internet, it was considered risky to share personal details. A single predator could easily latch on to any personal data and use it for malignant purposes. Being the only person on the internet with personal data exposed was a bad idea.
These days every person has their personal data on the internet. Paradoxically, this makes it safer for you to share personal data on the internet. When everyone’s data is on the internet, the chances of a predator stealing your data in particular is pretty slim. Its similar to the chances of being randomly attacked in the street, or having your house robbed. And we take similar precautions.
My general point was you take precautions according to the perceived hazard. Walking down at night brings a slight risk of running into trouble. So you carry a cell phone and stick to well light routes.
There is a minor risk of house robbery. So you lock the doors when you leave.
Publicly posting your email brings a minor risk of an increase in spam. So you get a spam filter.
