I was wondering if it’s possible to make some side money by making unity games. I mean doing your own games and selling them.
Is anyone around making good side money (500+ us dollars a month) from making unity games? See where I live 500 bux is enough to make a living, if you know where I’m getting at, lol.
Before getting a local job I used to make good money by making characters for people, but I really really wish I could profit a lil bit from just making characters for myself and put them in games!
I’m working on iPhone and PC/Mac Games for different clients for a living too.
$500 are worth ~16 hours of work.
Some senior programmers get a lot of money actually, like $100/hour or more.
It’s crazy that you can live from $500 bucks D: didn’t know it’s so cheap where you live. So you could work for clients around the world and get quite rich for your country
Cool! What about making my own games? Know if that’d be profitable?
I can live from 500 bucks, but it’d be a very tight budget, lol. But it would be a sufficient sacrifice so I could spend full time making videogames.
When I make videogames for myself I feel like I’m constantly learning and getting better, it requires a great deal of effort, but it’s very rewarding.
But I don’t know if that’d be the case with doing art or videogames for clients. Right now I work as a 3D animator, but they have me animating tv ads logos with adobe after effects 99% of the time, I can feel my brain getting number every day, and my artistic growth at work is none, if not decreasing…
I always see people posting that they do so well with apps but as an entrepreneur I would expect them to tell us the apps?
I do graphic design and layout design for GUI for non game related programs. Also for websites. Some of the sites I have done work for include Coca-Cola, Nike, MTv, Metallica, and others. I am also the in house graphic designer for a major Drum manufacturer Trick Drums (Trickdrums.com)
That being said I am a full time designer and a lot of the GUI for games were for one off web games Via CC and Nike and America’s Army and these are MAJOR companies and I have never seen one of their APPS make $500 a month nor do I ever see that kind of money off of individual projects. To make a living I am working on about 4 projects at a time and outputting 5-10 complete projects per month. I understand that I am in a lower cost market than a designer but I get the app numbers from apple as a developer and I just don’t see that happen very often. Most apps do not sell 500 copies a month but average about .99 cents less the fees so I would be intrigued to see the developer resume’s or app links here because if this is true and you are that good I could probably hook you up with some major companies.
I think the risk is way higher to get a lot of profit when you sell your own games.
I tried it with iPhone Apps before but it didn’t work for me.
So now i just create other peoples apps and games, get paid for it and done. At least you’ll be sure to get your salary in the end. I don’t have to worry if the apps make a lot of profit or not afterwards.
The iPhone market is a lot more saturated than the Android Market. It’s much easier to make a killing there because they allow adult apps and things like emulators as well.
