Anyone willing to help test with pureLIGHT

We are currently working on Unity support for pureLIGHT and was wondering if any Unity users out there would be willing to help us do some testing. At this point all the material creation and mesh placement is done manually. We are trying to automate the process, but it’s going to take some time. If you are interested just email me davec at purelighttech dot com.

Sorry, I should have posted information for those not familiar. pureLIGHT is a global illumination tool that allows for iterative lightmap generation.

More information on our website.

Hello Dave

Glad to see that pureLight is looking out to support Unity too (officially)
Thats a great step ahead

I would love to do some testing with it on Unity after the interesting testing on T3D. I’ll drop you a mail

Just to let you folks know. We are very close to finalizing Unity support. We know have scripts to import pureLIGHT content into Unity. There are still some manual steps involved in the process, but it seems that automating some parts of the Unity content are a bit tricky. That being said our lead coder has done a bang up job with the shaders and import scripts and it should be fairly easy for Unity users to get our high quality lightmaps into your Unity project.

sound pretty cool , I am curious to see this in action

Ever since I saw Purelight a month or so ago I thought how great it would be if it supported Unity, and now I see this. Woot!

Yeah, well, I don’t always check the external tools thread

Looks interesting but I don’t see a price listed anywhere on the site.

Very interesting. Do you plan to add a Macintosh version?

That’s true there is no price.

But I did see something about 500 dollars or something which is pretty hefty.

From the looks of it, it can totally re-UV map your objects so that it’ll play nicely withthem which is great because I’ve spent tons of time trying to get UV maps to work correctly and they just don’t turn out right…

The normal price for pureLIGHT is $500.00 and that may seem steep, but we feel the amount of time you’ll save and the quality of the end results far outweigh the price. In fact we’ve been told that for what pureLIGHT does the price is too low, but we understand the indie spirit and budget constraints so that’s why we’ve chosen this price level. We will be offering an initial discount as we did for Torque to help early adopters and help build a user base in the Unity community.

As for a Mac version, there are no plans at this time as most Macs can run Windows these days.We are looking into a command line/network render, but there is no firm date on that.

If anyone has any additional questions don’t hesitate to contact me or reply in this thread.

Also, to those who were interested in testing I am sending out trial versions today. We will eventually post a public link to a demo version for all Unity users, but we want to test with a smaller controlled group first.

Please never use that argument again. Many of us would rather decrease the surplus population with ourselves than take that course of action.

Quoted for agreement. Bootcamp is both a blessing, and a curse. My whole pipeline is in OS X, this makes zero sense to me.

I understand your concerns about a Mac version, but pureLIGHT uses DirectX and porting to OSX would require a substantial effort for a small share of an already small market. I wish it made economic sense as I am a Mac owner as well, but it doesn’t at this time.

I’ve got no problem with that; that makes sense, and I wish you well. Your other rationale did not make sense.

just a quick question David, if i already have Purelight for Torque will i need to buy it again to use it with Unity?

I was just wondering the exact same thing, I bought pureLight when it first came out from the GG site.

How looks the exact workflow for unity?

We are working out special pricing for people that own pureLIGHT for T3D and want to use it in Unity and vice versa. As soon as we decide I’ll post. It will be far less than an additional license.

As for workflow you can download out documentation here and check out our tutorial videos on YouTube.

It’s been a while since this was posted, but I was wondering if the testing offer was still open. We’re at a point in our project where we’re about to go back and re-do our entire pipeline for scene light baking. PureLight came up in discussion and it looks like a very viable alternative to doing everything in our 3D apps(Maya and C4D). If we could squeeze in to the test or even get a demo version, we’d be really grateful.
