Is it possible to have the keyboard pop up in an expected location and orientation? For an immersive app, it seems the keyboard would often pop up far from the input field - in random places and facing a different direction so you can’t even find it unless you walk around!
Apple does not currently give us much to control this. I will escalate it on Apple’s side to see if we can get something added but unfortunately I can’t do anything more than that right now.
Can you post a video which shows the text field you are clicking on, then the resulting location the keyboard pops up?
It might also be good to post a feedback bug report to Apple about this.
has this been fixed in 2.0 or 1.2.3?
so apple has re-directed me back to you guys on this issue.
this back and forth really doesn’t help.
We do have our own communication channel to apple to bring attention to things and hopefully get solutions faster. So don’t feel like we are deflecting you back to apple, we are raising the issue on our side as well, but it unfortunately comes to apple needing to give us something new to give us more control on this. We are still waiting on them.
We are facing this same issue with one of our products we are migrating to Vision Pro. Is there a bug report or other method we can use to help boost and get this issue resolved?
If the keyboard is only used for entering usernames or other simple inputs, with only letters, numbers and punctuation. I think a feasible solution for now is to develop a custom keyboard in Unity.
A keyboard without word prediction function is actually much easier to implement than people may think. Or find some existing assets to speed up the implementation.
Our team would be more willing to consider such an idea if we weren’t paying a Unity Industry License fee to develop on Apple Vision Pro.
Hey there, we are looking into ways to handle this, could you please file a bug report for this so we can keep a track on this
native keyboard with autocorrect is crucial, since it is free form text that we need.
Just a note that on 1.2.3 the keyboard does not seem to popup at all using TMP_Input?
checking back on (multiple) TMP input field not popping up a keyboard?
1.2.3 has been causing the keyboard to not load for input fields all versions -= even 2022.3.30f1
First responder issue detected: non-key window attempting reload - allowing due to manual keyboard (first responder window is <UIWindow: 0x11d37cb90; frame = (0 0; 1366 1024); gestureRecognizers = <NSArray: 0x303201380>; layer = <UIWindowLayer: 0x3032010e0>>, key window is <UIWindow: 0x164874860; frame = (0 0; 680 680); gestureRecognizers = <NSArray: 0x303095200>; layer = <UIWindowLayer: 0x303094f00>>)```
it seems that 1.2.3 TMP input field keyboard only pops up for single line and not for multi line
this is a major showstopping bug!
I was recently testing these issues on the VisionOS 2 beta and I could not get the keyboard to popup in any odd location. It always popped up right around my chest no matter where I clicked the input field from.
This may be corrected in the new VIsionOS beta if you can try it.
is there a way to correct for this when it pops up in front but gets occluded by a gameobject?
No, apple’s API doesn’t give any explicit control like that and they don’t plan to add it. They see it as something the OS is supposed to deal with automatically. But the popup placement does seem much better to me in VisionOS 2 beta. Seemed to always come up center of my vision at arms reach no matter where I was standing when I clicked the text field.
If the keyboard still comes up in showstopper locations in VisionOS 2, I’d suggest taking a video of it, and submitting it as a bug to Apple. Then also submit it as a bug to Unity and I can then send it through our channels as well to hopefully get Apple’s eyes on it quicker.
I found that in borderless mode, if the user walks forward a certain distance and clicks the input field, the virtual keyboard will pop up behind the user. However, if the user walks backward, everything functions normally.
