App store rankings weirdness continues

So I’ve been kind of following Touch KO’s rank. Not scientifically or anything. Just checking it now and then. Congrats Adam and Matt - it’s doing really well. But this post is because I found some more App Store weirdness…

When I first launch iTunes and go App Store then Top Paid Apps TKO is ranked around 34. If I then click on it to get to its main page, then use the Games tab to go back and then check the Top Paid Apps it’s at 22. And more… It’s not listed at all in What’s Hot when I first enter the main Games page but then it shows on the main Games page What’s Hot when I go back thru the Games tab. Weird huh?

either weird or some weird caching …

Just wondering, how does an app get into the featured or What’s Hot section? Is it based solely on number of downloads or ratings?

featured is apples sole decision.

Based on your description, you are comparing App Store/Top Paid Apps to App Store/Games/Top Paid Apps (check the path near the home icon)

ah ha, grant - that sounds like it! no weirdness after all :smile:

All of the lists aren’t updated at the exact same time either. I’ve seen my game above another app in the “games” list, and yet below that same app in the “top paid apps” list. It’s not accurate to the nanosecond :P.

ZVille is still holding strong - congrats! Great game my friend. Tho now I can’t get my iPod out of my kids hands… :slight_smile:
