Apple Privacy Survey (Unity Ads \ Analytics) - Time for a Refresh?

Hello!

So I’ve just completed the Apple Privacy Survey for my latest game and feel that the Unity Documentation on this could do with a little refresh.

Here are five points noticed whilst completing the survey.

1. Table Ordering

The table ordering is slightly off compared to the Apple Survey.

The Unity documentation table orders the questions like so…

a) Data Type
b) Collected
c) Linked to User
d) Purpose

But Apple has the questions in the following order…

a) Data Type
b) Purpose
c) Linked to User
d) Tracking

2. Tracking

In the Unity documentation Tracking is merged in with Purpose (as an ATT Note), but Apple has this as a separate Yes / No question.

3. Linked to User

In the Unity documentation Linked to User uses the phrases Linked to user and Not applicable, but Apple uses a simple Yes / No system.

4. Customer Support

In the Unity documentation this is labelled as May collect data, which is vague. Apple just requires a Yes / No regardless of whether the specific functionality is ever triggered in the app.

5. Data Types & Purposes

In the Unity documentation some of the data type & purpose (names\descriptions) are a little out of date compared to Apple.

None of these are deal breakers, but they definitely make setting up the App Privacy page a little harder as a result.

Hope this helps!

Hello!

Could someone from Unity comment on this please?

I had to update this for a game today (that had no privacy survey) and the Unity Privacy Survey has drifted even further from the Apple and Google Surveys.

Some additional comments…

  1. A new section called Advertising ID (separate to the privacy survey) can be found in the Google Play \ App Content section. As far as I can tell, the Unity Survey answers do not cover this.

  2. The Unity Analytics Survey is now pretty much saying Yes to everything. One can assume because technically it can store data free form and legal is trying to cover themselves. The end result makes it far harder to home in on the actual settings that are required.

  3. I see the Unity Privacy Survey has changed (in the last month) but there has been (as far as I can tell) no notification of this. It would be really helpful to have a section indicating each and every change (dated) so we don’t have to trawl through the entire survey and compare with the stores. Much like a lot of legal agreements & policies (etc) do.
