Apply a 2D grid over my whole scene.

I want to use Unity for creating nice battlemaps to be projected onto our gametable on my groups Dungeons & Dragons 4E sessions. Projection does not work for several reasons so I need a way to actually overlay a black (or white if the map is very bright) physical grid that I can adjust to fit the maps needs. Scale is 5 feet per square so I will create the maps with this in mind, but I might have to be able to adjust it “live” so that the squares is perfectly aligned with the map in mind. That is, if I have a hallway that is 10 feet wide, the grid will be displayed so that it is exactly 2 grids wide.

I am a total beginner to 3D engines, having dabbled with Unity for the whole of 2 days so please have this in mind if you can give me tips on how to solve this… 'cause I need ALL the help I can get

Thanks all!

Edit: To clarify; If should be a superimposed grid on the map allowing players to place D&D miniatures on the projected surface and use the squares to move around physically. The grid does not have to have any other functionality than to be able to be shown above everything else in the scene, but repositioning and resizing would be a bonus.

The scene will always be shown absolutely from Top Down perspective, and I as DM will use the laptop to scroll the map to reveal new areas as they explore them, possibly by positioning new torches or opening doors (another problem I have, but it can wait).

Thanks again.

could you search on this first?

@Mix, you should first thoroughly read every answer on here regarding projectors and all the doco for it in UNity I've helped you save the time Googling the doco: http://docs.unity3d.com/Documentation/Components/class-Projector.html then come back with any really specific questions, cheers!

When you use the words “projected” and “Projection” you are talking about a video projector I assume? Because there is also something called a projector inside Unity. You want a grid projector.
