Applying to Apple iPhone Developer Program

I’m creating this post as a place for us (Unity users) to discuss and track our experiences with applying (an getting accepted into) the Apple iPhone Developer Program.

It seems the most common question is “How long does it take to get accepted?”.

Here is where you sign up…

I applied for the Standard Program on Sept. 5th 2008 and, as of today (Sept 12th), I am still waiting.

Basically you have 2 options - apply as a company or apply as an individual person.

Applying as a company will take months to get accepted.

Applying as an individual you wait max. 1 week

It took me 3 days to get accepted as an individual, while I’m still waiting for my company to even be contacted (waiting 1+ month now).

It took me about a day to get accepted. I think I hit it at the right time (most likely during a slow application period). Most of the dev’s I’ve talked to have waited about a week.

I for the beta and once I got the acceptance e-mail it only took me about 12 hours to get into the dev program after I forked over my $99.

I applied as a company on July 27. Still waiting.

Wow, I had no idea that was the case… I assumed, if anything, that the business route would be quicker. Thats that way I signed-up. Thanks for the info!! I’m going to create a new apple account and "re"apply as an individual!

Whoa! I just got followup email for my application asking me to fax them some supporting documentation (to identify my company as a real company). I guess it’s moving along…

Well, a few hours ago I applied to the iPhone Developer Program as an individual and I just now received an email accepting me. That was fast!

So, applying as an Individual (not as a Business) is most definitely the way to go!

I have no idea what the country code is for the united states (phone number). I’ve been trying to apply. What did you guys put down?

What!!! I applied in April – and still waiting as an individual… maybe it got lost?! Does location matter I wonder?

In addition to the phone number thing, how do payments work? Do they give you money on your credit card, or send you a check by mail? And what percentage do they take?

Answers to those will become available to you once you get your registration number to accept the NDA etc

it is 1

Since April!?! something has to be wrong. Did you already pay the $99 ?

I requested mine back in jan/feb. Was not accepted till 3 days before the iphone launched in my country even thought I’ve owned an ipod touch since 1.1.0 generation
so if there is no official iphone reseller in your country for example, that might be a reason

OK. Well I’m glad this thread was started! So, my status for months has said “we are processing you application” on the apple iphone dev page - once I’d logged in. So I thought I was in a queue. But the replies above got me thinking… I have just checked my filtered Apple folder (which is basically an Apple junk folder)… and apart from my May (not April) application there were a couple of nice emails in July telling me they were ready to progress if I checked the acceptance box. Arghh… hopefully all sailing on now. Thanks for the prompting.

Alright guys, I have more questions. I got to the part where I had to legally confirm that I am 18 or older. I’m only 15. What should I do? I usually just click it, cause it’s less hassle, but I dont think I can cash checks made out to me. Should I do it in a parent’s name (but I dont want that showing up above my games)? What’s my solution here?

I’d say talk to your parents about it.

I did and they’re cool with anything. They think I should probably use their name, so that’s what I’m gonna do :(. No one will know my games are mine.

Who cares as long as you are rich?!
