Approaching harder problem make me feel nervous, should I not?

I will overcome this as the time pass but during the time I overcoming it is making me stress a lot.

Additionally, Will I become BALDNESS if I stress too much? I starting to lose hair since I was 17.

Are these questions ā€œfor realā€?

Itā€™s pretty simple reallyā€¦ just work on some games. Have fun with it. If you donā€™t want to make games (or you want to & find it causes too much stress for you) then find something else to do besides thinking about making games.

Wanting to get things done is like a sword that urges you to move, but knowing better than to rush and be sloppy is a wall. Sometimes you get caught between both!

@GarBenjamin
I donā€™t feel like want to do something else beside making it. Iā€™m somewhat get addicted and itā€™s fun but it also stressing.

Then what can we do about it?

No, unless failure to solve the problem would result in loss of life, injury, thermonuclear war, awakening of cthulhu, robot uprising and the like.

ā€œComplex problemā€ means thereā€™s more fun in solving it.

The idea is to have fun while learning. Challenges are fun. Complex problems are more challenge. Therefore more complex problems are more fun.

Visit a dermatologist.They handle that.

Itā€™s fun but also cost a lot of energy, more headache, stress, anxiety, depression. And when I had all of this it will make me look more like a mad scientist and old. I donā€™t want to look like a nerd. I want to balance it.

And like @dogzerx2 say, [quote]

@GTHell . Either way. WHen I was learning to program, I did not have this problem. I did things because they were fun , because I was curious about what I can do with this or that tool, and wanted to experimentā€¦

If youā€™re getting nervous and stressedā€¦ well, I donā€™t know how you managed to get yourself into this kind of state of mind. Might make sense to sit down, self-analyze and try to pinpoint what is that thing youā€™re afraid of.

ā€¦

ā€œgetting depressed or stressed as a result of solving fun/complex problemā€ does not compute for me.

Worrying about how other people perceive you can deal a lot of damage and seriously hinder you in achieving, well, anything and may lead to a very miserable life. I do remember some teenagers being very sensitive about opinions of others, though.

In my experience most people do not care about anyone who is not their close friend. Also, mad scientists can be cool.

Iā€™m a really insecure person. Itā€™s a mental problem because I know I have a mental problem

Everything was easy before in term of learning program but after a few day of picking up Unity 3d, My entire life change. I challenge myself to death(exaggerated). I didnā€™t enjoy FB the way I used to be because I think that itā€™s waste of time. One of my friend commented on my profile and said that ā€œYouā€™ve changed.ā€ and I reply ā€œIā€™ve grown upā€. lol

I still play LoL for sometimes and try to figure out why that game is so addictive. I also planning my new project. It will be a time killer game that people play when they waiting for the bus, loading screen, in elevator or when they get anxiety at the party/crowd. Itā€™s getting ridiculous that I have a lot of concept that make me thinking of starting up a studio and hire people to do it.

Also, I donā€™t know if it a mental problem or a habit that I like telling stranger about myself. Maybe I just love to share my experience and my views with others!

ā€¦

Have you considered visiting a therapist? No offense.

ā€¦

Mostly because seeking support on the internet may end up being just another way to procrastinate without doing anything.

And hereā€™s another comic:

If Iā€™m correct, youā€™re the 20th person who tell me to see a therapist. Seriously!

Procrastinate also has a side benefit. If you canā€™t balance that than it will hurt you. You cannot doing thing all day and you can also not procrastinate all day.

I have a medical background and I would personally suggest getting a blood assay for heavy metals and hydrocarbon toxins. If that is beyond your financial means or your insurance or country does not cover it then try chelation therapy and gluathione supplements. The hair loss is not a mental problem.

Soā€¦ what do you mean by ā€œItā€™s fun but also cost a lot of energy, more headache, stress, anxiety, depressionā€?

Thereā€™s many times I take a break from a project because well itā€™s time to take a break. If you have some unrealistic goal that you are striving to reach that is a common reason for getting stressed. Like you have this goal of doing ā€œall of this within this [way too short] amount of timeā€. That is a recipe for a lot of stress.

If youā€™re doing this personally as a hobby it really shouldnā€™t be filled with stress. There is no deadline you have to hit. Certainly not one that cannot be changed. Itā€™d be different if you were doing this as a job and striving to meet a deadline someone else set (something I donā€™t agree with but that is another story).

Speaking only in terms of your personal game development activities hereā€¦ what exactly is it that is causing so much stress? What are you trying to do? What is it that you are afraid of?

If you are even asking this question, then yes, you might as well give up. Clearly you arenā€™t cut out for this

As Notorious B.I.G would say, Donā€™t be mad, UPS is hirin

I honestly mean this in all kindness, but I think that if you are getting depressed from your hobby and you really do think you are mental, then please see a therapist. For your own sake so they can help you

Does it actually make you depressed or stressed through? Iā€™ve gotten stressed a lot before like when i spend 3h trying to find a workaround for an engine bug or something (im stubborn and dont stop till i can fix it) but never have i thought of it as depressing, just hard work

Actually, Iā€™m going to agree with ippdev. People donā€™t consider what all the toxic chemicals theyā€™re exposed to in this age of chemicals society are doing to their brains. You would be surprised to learn just how much itā€™s negatively affecting you. Ever since Iā€™ve educated myself about health from sources that donā€™t include the companies selling products or groups funded by those companies, and taken measures to improve my health, my productivity and problem solving ability has gone up tremendously. Furthermore, itā€™s much easier to handle the stress.

Beyond that, though, you better figure out exactly what it is thatā€™s causing the problems. What about it is causing stress? Is it that you feel youā€™re unable to do it? Do you feel like youā€™re not smart enough? Is it that you feel youā€™re not the ā€˜type of personā€™ fit for doing it? Is it that itā€™s boring? Is it that youā€™re not motivated to take the time to learn what is required to solve the problem? What, exactly, is the problem with it? If you figure that out you can then address the more narrowed down problem instead of the very vague problem.

Especially if weā€™re talking about anxiety and depression, thereā€™s something there that you need to bring out and address. Itā€™s not just ā€œsolving complex problemsā€.

Yeah being bald is part of the programmer thing. You will go bald and shine brightly. A dome of wisdom.

That comic is pretty crap because really, the dreamers tend to have better quality lives. And more hair.

Eh, you underestimate people.

You can definitely do one thing all day long from the moment till you wake up to the moment when you drop to sleep, taking short break for food and the likeā€¦ for several days in a row, maybe even for a few weeks.

And peopleā€™s ability to waste their time is limitless.

If you are having these problems while simply learning game development at your own pace then I donā€™t see how you will be able to handle game development for a living when you have to deal with crunch time and other similar situations. You will frequently run into delays during development that need to be worked around and overcome.

donā€™t be afraid of becoming bald. Happen(s)(ed) to me ā€¦pf. just get a short haircut or none at all.

stressā€¦ 24 hours for you, every day. just like everyone else. keep things tidy and clean (!), your desk, files, your code, so you can focus - this helps you not getting a feeling of drowning (in stress, work, stuffā€¦) and also helps not to procrastinate so much. some days, being creative is hard. you can not force it, get yourself a racing bicycle and go for a ride then.
depression - (ā€¦well I know what you talk aboutā€¦) is a difficult topic. pro tip: Do not lock yourself up, you alone with your work. That does not work, GO OUT and leave your notebook at home / in the office.

I been losing hair since I started coding. I donā€™t have baldness, I just been ripping it out :stuck_out_tongue:

You can overcome your problem if itā€™s a reasonable thing to do considering your skill level in whatever it is your doing. Weigh your abilities, the time you have to have it done by, and if you feel like doing itā€¦ do it! Otherwise donā€™t go losing your hair over nothing haha
