AR Foundation Object Tracking Question

Hi Guys I have some questions about this.

  1. Docs says this only works on Apple:

So you cant object track on Android???

  2. Do I have to 3d scan my object 1st, to be able to add it to the library? What if I already have an accurate FBX model of the real world object, cant I just use that and add it to my object library instead of scanning objects to then add it the the library???

Yes, only ARKit currently supports Object Tracking. And it’s not possible to track an arbitrary fbx model, you have to first scan the scanning app that saves the model into .arobject file.

Thats a bit silly!!!

Seems other things like visionLib is compatible with AR Foundation and that makes it possible to do what I want with cad data. Also Vuforia seems to have a similar solution although last time I checked, Vuforia’s pricing was a bit rediculous for what I need it for

Any other 3rd party SDK’s anybody knows of that works with AR Foundation?

I also know Wikitude can do the Object Tracking from model files and it supports AR Foundation.

Ah, seems Vuforia adjusted their pricing since I last looked, and they now have a more generous free plan

VisionLib doesnt have transparent pricing on their site and you have to request it, it seems, based on your use, only after registering. Hate it when companies does that!
