AR SUPERCARS - Real World MarioKart with RC Cars

Company: xSCAPE Games
Game: AR SUPERCARS - “Real World MarioKart with RC Cars”
Platform: PC / VR / Mobile

Hi, my name is Pete. I came up with the idea for making this game after building the world’s largest grass roots drone racing league called Drone Squad.

I have been working with a small team of volunteer devs on this project for over a year. It’s been a long road because we had to develop custom robotics, hardware and software. For example, our newest AR SUPERCARS have low latency wireless video, various sensors and a computer vision system.

Our First Multiplayer Prototype

To show progress, below is our first multiplayer prototype from early this year. It used a laptop and XBOX controllers. For development speed, we built it in python.

Overall, this AR SUPERCARS prototype was hit when we demoed it at Two Bit Circus’s beta night in Los Angeles. The lap time announcements initiated a lot of trash talking and drivers loved using the turbo boost power-ups. You may notice, it used our old analog video system.

Adding Race Simulator Rigs & Unity

This summer we teamed up with with CXC Racing and made our cars work with their $60,000 racing simulators. Using our car sensors and their motion control rig, you feel every bump, jump and crash that the RC cars make during the race.

I’ll never forget the first time the team tried the motion control driving, we were laughing like little kids. The systems are being fully integrated now, but here’s what the final product will look like:

We recently started porting to unity so we can have a production ready system for simulator owners. I’m open to any kind of feedback, ideas or questions.

Also, if you or someone you know wants to help out, please reach out via PM or our website.

Bump - I’m hiring for this:

Bonus if you have experience with: GStreamer, MavLink SDK, and PX4 drone flight controller hardware.

Since this is a hardware project, the ideal candidate should be located in Los Angeles.

We will make exceptions for remote applicants that have a unique blend of skills in Robotics / Drones, wireless video, VR, Unity and location based entertainment. (We can provide a hardware SDK).
