I’ve been figuring out which assets would fit my project lately, and bought some of them to test its potential and capabilites, however, I still use Unity 3, and I was asking myself a question:
All these things I’m buying and experimenting with, are they fully operational under Unity 4.0?
I’ve read through the new features of Unity 4 and I can see a few assets that might have some compatibility problem, but I don’t know to what extent the Unity Store controls such a thing, or it’s a responsability for the developers to adapt to the new features.
So far, any of you having any compatibility problems with your imported assets from the asset store?
Thanks a lot for your feedback, it’s much appreciated!
If the developer do not include support to newer platform, after sometime UT may remove the asset from store…
However in practice maaaaany assets simply won’t work on Unity 4 until the devs fix them, and that wont happen quickly.
If I notice an asset provider do not care about keeping his services up to date, I will never buy anything fro that provider again.
If you buy something which doesnt work on Unity4, i think in most cases, its a good reason to get a refund immediately.
My assets would be an exception because they all work with Unity4
It is the code related packages then it might have a few issues but it won’t be major since Unity 4 still supports functions that will be removed. You will note some warning in unity 4 about functions being depricated. A good idea is to check on this forum if a package has a thread (or whatever support support channel the package uses) and just ask about how compatible it is. If there is no easy way to contact the author, well, then it is probably save to assume he won’t care enough to update the package either.
