Are Demos Tutorials up to date for Unity 3?

Hey All,

I’m new to Unity and having issues with demos and tutorials. It seems like none are really up to date and working with Unity 3 yet. I hope I’m wrong, and it’s just my noobness shining through…

Which demos and tutorials? There are lots floating around. If you mean the ones on the official Unity website, I believe most (but not all) have been updated as needed for U3. Third-party demos and tutorials are another matter; for those, contact the original author(s) when in doubt. If you need confirmation regarding a specific demo or tutorial, name it, and hopefully someone who has got it working can tell you what, if anything, they needed to do with it.

When I checked the official Lerpz tutorial (shortly after Unity3’s release) it hadn’t been updated, but the differences were rather trivial and easy to figure out. For example, instead of loading “Standard Assets / Character Controllers” as the tutorial stated you load “Character Controllers”.

Island Demo - you just comment out two lines that give compiler error. If someone know ho to fix those lines so they would work - please let me know.

OK, there are some excellent tutorials on Youtube. A lot of them use the Island Demo. However, in v3 of Unity - although the Island Demo is included, it WILL NOT build. Compiler errors. States it’s an older version and is capable of upgrade, but doesn’t fix the problem. Is there a fix for it?
