Are Eye-Transforms Backwards in 5.6b8 Native Cardboard?

Hello,

We’re porting our game from manual Cardboard GoogleVR APIs to the new integrated native Cardboard support. What I’m noticing, is that the magic wand in the character’s right hand of our game looks wrong. It appears the left-eye sees more of the right-hand wand than the right-eye. I’ve included a screenshot. Is this a bug or am I missing something obvious? Note we’re placing the wand during an Update() using Camera.ViewportToWorldPosition.

Cheers.

Hi Jodon,
It’s probably hard to tell from your description and the picture alone what is causing this behaviour. Could you please submit a bug report with a reproduction case (minimal if possible) and reply in here with the case #?

Also, is this something new to b8 (a regression) or is this something that is reproducible in previous releases? There is a related post here (https://forum.unity3d.com/threads/reversed-stereoscopic-for-the-daydream.456592/) that is noting the same thing.

BTW, is this in editor or on device?

This is on the device. I cannot say if this is a regression or not since Cardboard integration is completely new to us, we had previously used the Cardboard SDK and did not have issues.

So when you are looking through a Cardboard viewer, you are noticing that the stereo image you are seeing is really messed up or does it look correct in the viewer?

It’s very hard to tell when using a viewer, as you can keep adjusting the position until the image converges. I’ve done a few more tests, so I have a bit more evidence, though I’m no longer convinced this is flipped transforms, though I do believe it’s wrong:

If you run this example on the Vive, you can see that the “right hand” (the elongated cube) is more visible from your right eye than the left. By closing each eye, you can see the parallax against the background is correct.

If you run this example on Cardboard, you can see that the “right hand” is more visible from the LEFT eye. But also you can verify that the parallax is correct by closing each eye. It’s like the Cardboard eye transforms are forcing a cross-eyed view of the world. I do not know if this is intended or not, that may be why I always feel a bit uncomfortable with Cardboard.

If you’re able to confirm that the view is supposed to be cross-eyed (perhaps because the screens are too small?) that may be the issue.
