It’s still worth going if you want to network, and what better time than when everyone is jumping ship. I won’t be but then I can’t afford a trip like that and I don’t have a passport which is partially due to not being able to afford these trips.
“Networking events” like this are kinda bullshit, honestly. It’s kinda like how people say “I just go to GDC to network” but then you find out they’re doing all their networking outside of GDC, it’s just that the event is happening adjacent to that.

I go to GDC to drink with old friends. (which in many ways is the opposite of networking).

Well, there you go. If Unite 2023 was actually Unite Beerfest 2023 then I would go. Gone are the days when I could only handle 2 pints. I’ve made it to the age where people should just line them up.
I think that falls nicely into “things you do adjacent to GDC” unless they got real lax with the rules since covid.
Technically adjacent, but also functionally a means to have someone else pay for you to go to SF to meet up with old friends. Some stuff happens on site, but mainly the conference is just a place to get swag and wait for the evening “meetings” to start. The talks during the day are mostly marketing bs. Some of the tech ones are good, but they are just as good watching videos after the show.
