Area light shadows

I’m lighting a scene with a building that has multiple floors. If I turn Area light shadows off, the lights add to each other on each floor below. If I turn on shadows, I get ugly splotchy shadows. I’ve expieremented with many of the lightmap settings and I can minimize them, but not get rid of them. Is there a way to fix this? Lightmap compression is turned off, shadow samples is set to 4, Linear color space, Deffered lighting. Thanks.

looks like you need more rays in final gather…
