Ariadne's Thread

Hi guys,

My very first post here…

Just wanted to let you know about our entry for the Immunity Contest.

Ariadne’s Thread is a survival game that’s built around the concepts of darkness, light, sound and getting lost.
The only way out lies with the other inhabitant of the labyrinth…

The current version is one “experience”.
It’s not easy and not for the faint of heart :), but we hope to bring some interesting game-mechanics to the table.

When we’d complete this, a lot of effort would go to extra immersion (full-blown art, soundfx), demonstrating the power of Unity to create high- quality web games.
We have some ideas for more levels and bossmechanics. Maybe someday, who knows…

Check it out at:

(and vote for us if you like it :P)

thnx a lot guys!

cheers,
Jelle Husson Frederik Windey

Say, I was looking at your post in “What are you working on” and found this. Is this still playable? Somewhere?

Hey,

Oh wow, that’s a game that goes a long way back, it’s from ancient times (literally)

As you can see it was submitted back then for a contest. The link would take you to a page where you could find all the contestants but as you’ve probably discovered, it’s broken.

I’ll see if I can maybe host it on my own webspace tomorrow and will get back to you.

Don’t expect too much of it though, it was just a prototype. The gameplay was pretty experimental and there was only placeholder art
I made it together with a friend of mine, with who I’m working on a new project now.

Thanks for your interest.

Oh, and it seems that on this pc I was logged in as PossiblyPixels, my app-store alter ego

Were you wearing glasses and a cheap suit when you posted as PossiblyPixels? Or a cape and pajamas?

Always interested in people’s work, and yes it is old, but your work looks good and seeing the work people made when they started fascinates me. I love watching people grow and perfect their skill.

Hehe, ok… we found back a working version of our prototype.

You should be able to play it here:

If you dare… muhahaha

Scared the hell out of me… I was just running in the dark, haven’t even seen the monster/beast… what is it?!

This is great! I really liked it. Couldn’t refill my torch, but, hey, I had a glowy sword!

Haha, glad you guys liked it

To refill your torch you need to stand close to one of those big vase-thingies and click your left mousebutton.
Because it’s a webplayer, it’s a little clumsy cause you have to click inside the playable window.

Also, in case you can’t find a refill point, you always have your red thread to trace back your steps

Also also, the frescos you find against the walls might give you some hints about the monster and how to defeat it;)

It was a quick prototype and no doubt there will be little bugs and clumsy things happening, but you can actually finish the game and escape from the dungeon…

It’s a really great prototype. I like the hinting for the mechanics. I got the frescos. I think the web-player click thing was a problem, I just couldn’t get it to work, but hey, who’s complaining. Thanks for diggin’ it up!

I got the sword, found the minotaur, though when I attacked it I think my sword got stuck.

Would be nice if the enemy is actually an unseen horror that only appears when you run out of torchlight. I thought that was the point of having to refill your torch, like in Amnesia.

Hehe, maybe the sword was meant to get stuck…
Look closely at the (I admit: tiny) map in the beginning. There are three white crosses on it. Where did you find your sword?

Your suggestion about the horror appearing when the light goes out is a nice one, but a totally different game.
Here you should use the torch in some way to defeat the monster

And that’s all for hints for now

Come on guys, who’s the first one to get out of the labyrinth?

/me plucks up his courage and wonders if he can just figure out how to refill the torch then he could defeat the labyrinth.
